Job Description

As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks a Director of Employer Relations to promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by providing exceptional service to students, faculty, and staff by acting as the primary point of contact for all communication for the Academic Commons. Forming and cultivating strategic relationships with employers; connecting employers and students through various networking and recruiting engagements; staying well-informed on market trends and in-demand industries, skills, and certifications; and representing The Exchange on various boards to ensure consistent communication and maintain key relationships.
 
The Director of Employer Relations is a vital member of the Exchange team — a team empowering students and alumni to explore and discern potential career paths and develop key skills critical to their long-term professional success. The Exchange engages with students early and often and connects students to the larger community in the form of on-campus employment, informational interviews, networking, internships, career fairs, panel discussions, and more. Since 2020, The Exchange has received annual recognition as a Career Development College of Distinction.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
  • Serve as conduit between faculty and employers to facilitate and expand career integration within the academic curriculum; maintain strong, positive employer relations as their key contact with The Exchange.
  • Manage employer outreach and engagement via our CMS CORE (Career Opportunities, Relationships, and Engagement; powered by 12twenty), which can take various forms: networking events, career fairs, employer presentations, interviews/mock, panels, internships, site visits, etc.
  • Oversee employer efforts for events (e.g., Networking Knights, Nursing Roundtables, career fairs), including complete event management, communication, and preparation, from planning stages through execution and evaluation.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of hiring trends; influential employers; in-demand industries, skill sets, and certifications (e.g., through research of and in consultation with NACE, Indy Chamber, BOV members, and assessing employer relationships/feedback, best places to work in Indiana, BizVoice, etc.); disseminating information to Exchange, faculty, administration, satellite locations as appropriate.
  • Strategic outreach/partnership with key industries & employers to align with program needs, faculty/student requests, market trends, etc. (e.g., A-team engagements, project-based learning needs, community partnerships, FWS partnerships).
  • Assessment and tracking of outcomes related to employer engagement, satisfaction, needs, and areas for growth.
  • Represent The Exchange on various Boards of Visitors (e.g., Byrum School of Business, Technology Advisory Board, Marian University of St. Joseph’s College, etc.).
  • Represent Marian University in the College Career Center Consortium (CCCC). Collaborate with member schools related to employer initiatives.
  • Create opportunities for both employer engagement and revenue generation (e.g., Employer Workshop Series, employer professional development opportunities, etc.).
  • Educate and advise students and alumni on career development and employer engagement through individual appointments via email, phone and in-person; group sessions, mock interviews, and workshops.
  • Maintain regular office hours (40 hr/wk) providing walk-in and scheduled career development support to students as needed.

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus 3-5 years of relevant experience required. Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Human Resources, Counseling, College Student Personnel, or related field preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) are essential; ability to connect with a multitude of audiences (students, faculty, staff, administration, alumni, external community); strong initiative, work ethic, and critical thinking skills; solid follow-through with all constituents; commitment to customer service; and the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and goals, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through and comfort managing projects with many moving parts.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience in Career Service Management systems (e.g., 12twenty, Handshake, Simplicity, etc.) is a plus.
  • Social media proficiency, especially in relation to student, employer, and alumni engagement is also a plus.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and direction, as well as within a team environment.
  • High ethical standards for maintaining confidential information.
  • A positive, growth mindset and sense of humor are appreciated.
