Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice President/Chief Human Resources Officer, the Director of Employee Experience is a key member of the Human Resource Services leadership team. This strategic senior leader is responsible for the full spectrum of employee relations and employee experience programs and activities for all non-represented employees of Northern Illinois University. The Director will conduct investigations/inquiries for affirmative action complaints, university grievances, disciplinary matters, and workplace issues/concerns upon request. The Director is also responsible for overseeing all policies, procedures and processes associated with a wide range of complex matters related to employee relations by providing guidance, information and effective workplace strategies to supervisors, supportive professional staff, and civil service employees. This leader is also responsible for developing employee relation/ experience strategies that align with the university’s mission, vision, and values while ensuring compliance with federal and state laws and university policies and procedures. This leader is expected to communicate effectively and to use sound judgement while keeping the SAVP/CHRO properly informed. Effective coordination and working relationships with NIU leadership, HRS, Labor Relations, University Ombudsperson, Personnel Advisors, and external partners at related state agencies and universities is an essential aspect of this position.
