Description
As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks a Director of Military Affairs who will promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by leading university-wide efforts to recruit, support, and cultivate the success of military-affiliated students at Marian University. This position is responsible for coordinating with enrollment management to actively recruit military-connected individuals—including veterans, active-duty service members, reservists, and military family members. They are also responsible for designing and implementing comprehensive support services that promote their academic, personal, and professional success.

The Director must be both strategic and hands-on as success in this office of one demands a proactive individual who can implement strategies at varying levels of the institution. The Director reports directly to the Executive Director of Inclusive Leadership and works collaboratively across university divisions to foster a campus culture of inclusion and achievement for military-affiliated students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
  • Lead and coordinate with Enrollment Management on recruitment strategies targeting military-affiliated students.
  • Partner with Enrollment Management and Marketing to promote Marian University as a military-friendly institution through outreach campaigns, recruitment events, and participation in veteran-focused college fairs and military installations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to streamline the admissions and onboarding experience for military-connected students.
  • Develop and oversee comprehensive support services tailored to the unique needs of military-affiliated students, including benefit counseling, academic advising, career development, and mental health support
  • Lead initiatives that foster a welcoming and inclusive campus climate for military students and their families.
  • Serve as the primary advocate for military-affiliated students, ensuring their integration into campus life and access to necessary resources
  • Develop and implement initiatives that encourage leadership and career development to ensure military affiliated student success and engagement such as a peer-to-peer mentoring program, tailored career development programs, and experiential learning activities.
  • Track and monitor student academic success through GPA monitoring and other data driven metrics. Offer tailored academic engagement interventions when appropriate

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in higher education or a military-connected setting, including at least 2 years of direct experience working with military-affiliated populations.
  • Prior military service is highly valued and preferred.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
