Primary Purpose of Position
The Director of Development is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gifts ($25,000+) from individuals, corporations and foundations. This is a professional fund raising position in the Division of University Advancement. The Director of Development will be assigned to work with schools and colleges within the University.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The mission of the Division of University Advancement is to expand the University’s relationship with its many publics for purposes of increasing both the financial and human resources of the University; to maintain the goodwill and support of the University’s many publics; and to market the University, its programs and services to their best possible advantage.
Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of three years of fundraising, sales and or marketing experience.
Demonstrated superior ability for clear, articulate and persuasive communication, orally and in writing, as well as a highly developed sense of propriety in dealing with sensitive information.
Accountability in delivery of personal and organizational commitments.
Demonstrates initiative by proactively and assertively addressing position responsibilities.
High level of customer service.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Experience in fund-development with a non-profit or in higher education preferred. Ability to work independently and in teams, meet high goals and interact effectively with alumni, friends, faculty and staff in a comprehensive research university setting. Willingness to travel and work weekends.
