Job Description
Working under the supervision of the SES Director of Undergraduate Studies, the Assistant Director of Core Engineering and Science Education will be responsible for collaboratively working with the associate chairs for undergraduate studies, faculty, and staff to further build and enhance the School of Engineering and Science’s core engineering and science education. The Assistant Director will be primarily responsible for coordinating the instructional delivery, student registration and scheduling logistics, and collecting of assessment data for all core courses in the undergraduate engineering and science programs. In addition, the Assistant Director will also oversee and implement SES initiatives aimed at fostering student-faculty interactions and a sense of community amongst our undergraduate student population in SES.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate effective delivery of e-core courses that are delivered by the IDEaS program and the School of Engineering and Science departments. This involves scheduling for these courses and working with other departments to ensure ample section configurations and staffing. Working in Workday Student to predict section sizes. These classes include: IDEaS Program: ENGR 111, ENGR 122, ENGR 211, ENGR 232/212, ENGR 311/E321, MGT 103, IDE 399/400, IDE 401, IDE 402
- Provide oversight and integration of core courses which serve as foundational courses in SES offered in chemistry, math, and physics. Review and support assessment activities for these courses for various accreditation programs.
- Collaborate with senior design coordinators for senior design related input required for innovation expo and external relations
- Co-organize the senior pitch competition along with the IDE 402 coordinator
- Co-organize the Gallois Autonomous Robot Competition with the ENGR 122 Coordinator
- Co-organize the Order of the Engineer Ceremony with organization leader
- Administer and analyze Exit Survey in Engineering Programs
- Implement a common model for teaching and assessing large e-core classes with course coordination and organizing instructor training
- Collaborate with faculty developing/revising e-course content and transition to classroom.
- Collaborate and coordinate with SES departmental academic advisors
- Coordinate the assessment of E-core courses, including correctness of learning outcomes listed on surveys and compilation assessment data for the courses listed
- Oversee and implement SES initiatives aimed at fostering student-faculty interactions and a sense of community amongst our undergraduate student population in SES
- Provide oversight and support of undergraduate student clubs and groups which fall outside traditional departmental disciplines (Tau Beta Pi, Society of Women Engineering, NSBE, etc.)
- Serve as point of contact and coordinate meetings for the SES Dean’s Undergraduate Advisory Board
- Primary liaison between SES and Office of Student Life and related activities and initiatives at Stevens
- Support SES Office of Undergraduate Studies efforts at enhancing co-curricular activities of our undergraduate students, including co-op, undergraduate research, and study abroad
- Support SES Office of Undergraduate Studies initiatives to identify, recruit, and recommend undergraduate students for scholarships and other support
Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree
Preferred Education: Master’s degree
Required Experience: Minimum of 5 years experience in higher education administration
Preferred Experience: Minimum of 10 years experience in higher education administration

- Strong project and time management skills.
- Ability to produce high-quality work on deadline while managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work with student information systems to obtain and analyze large data sets, previous knowledge with Workday Student desired.
- Event and logistics organization experience desired.
