The school educates a broad spectrum of learners — from community health workers to professional caregivers — and is quickly becoming an incubator for health-related careers within fast-growing sectors of the U.S. economy.

OHSU-PSU School of Public Health seeks a dynamic and highly collaborative leader to expertly navigate both landscapes, acting as a visionary leader and bridge builder, ensuring that each institution’s research and faculty needs are strategically met and aligned while balancing OHSU’s internationally groundbreaking and lifesaving research and PSU’s commitment to community engagement and academic innovation. The position is very well supported including a brand new building ready in January 2021 to house the School of Public Health. The position also enjoys a motivated and dedicated faculty.

This position reports to Dean David Bangsberg (OHSU- PSU School of Public Health). The Associate Dean for Research will also serve as a member of the Leadership Committee to advise on research policy issues and to collaborate with the leadership team.

Responsibilities:
  • Support efforts to fund high quality doctoral students and facilitate dialogue among faculty and doctoral students;
  • Identify and promote funding sources to support research and training programs;
  • Manage budgetary matters related to the School’s research program;
  • Address compliance issues, for example IRB;
  • Provide collegiate guidance and collaborate with SPH unit heads and faculty to promote new research initiatives;
  • Develop and provide guidance and incentives for student and junior faculty excellence in research;
  • Oversee and coordinate the SPH Research Council, comprised of senior representatives from both OHSU and PSU;
  • Act as liaison and represent the Dean on selected research-oriented committees and programs at the University, state, national and international levels;
  • Advocate for adequate resources to support various research programs, including space, software, and other support;
  • Maintain and foster new community partnerships to facilitate research;

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Earned doctoral degree in public health research-related field/s;
  • Extensive experience in higher education with an emphasis in the conduct of research and grant management;
  • Demonstrated expertise in research development, grant writing, grant management, policy development and implementation and public speaking;
  • Strong program of research with demonstrated interdisciplinary research collaborations;
  • Experience in community-based and community-engaged research;
  • Demonstrated success as a Principal Investigator of peer-reviewed federal and foundation research grants;
  • Prior experience as NIH reviewer or with other externally-funded reviews
  • Substantial record of peer-reviewed research publications;
  • History of success in mentoring investigators at all levels of experience;
  • Demonstrated expertise in setting performance standards, developing metrics, and in program evaluation applied to the research enterprise;
  • Ability to serve as an effective liaison in geographically-diverse settings and across the health care continuum;
  • Knowledge of and ability to generate revenue and manage budgets with varying degrees of complexity.
