    The University of Medicine and Health Sciences (UMHS), St Kitts, West Indies, is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity and seeks nominations, and invites applications for the position of Provost. 


    The Provost is the Chief Academic Officer and is responsible for leadership of the education, scholarly activity, and mission of the institution, fostering academic excellence and integrity.  The Provost reports to the President and works closely with the Board of Trustees in a role of broad leadership and oversight.  The Provost reviews recommendations for faculty appointments, promotion and tenure across the University, and is responsible for the university’s functions and programs to maintain and continue to develop academic excellence.


    As the chief academic budget officer, the Provost will oversee the annual budget process, as well as long term budgetary planning for the campus. In this role, the Provost will work closely with the various deans, president, executive vice president, and the Chief Financial Officer, who has responsibility for the overall financial affairs of the University.


    Candidates must have significant experience as a senior administrator, such as chief academic officer at a recognized and accredited medical school, preferably in the U.S., Canada, or the United Kingdom.  As the Chief Academic Officer, the Provost will have oversight of both the Basic and Clinical Science Programs, and will be engaged in maintaining quality assurance, and have oversight of the curriculum and all academic programs. The Provost will also have oversight of all accreditations and State approvals.


    The successful candidate must have a medical degree. The Provost must be an academic leader with a distinguished record worthy of appointment at the rank of full professor.

    UMHS has multiple accreditations and approvals including ACCM (Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine). This is an international accrediting body that has adopted US standards of accreditation and is recognized by both the National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA) and the U.S. Department of Education. 


    The Basic Science Program is located at our state-of-the-art campus on the beautiful Caribbean island of St. Kitts. UMHS invested more than $100 million dollars to develop one of the most modern campuses in the Caribbean which can compare, or even exceed, that of most U.S. Medical schools.  The Clinical Program, consisting of semesters 5-10, is completed at our campus in Maine as well as 26 affiliated teaching hospitals located in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada. Students qualify for licensure and residencies throughout the United States.  Over 92% of our graduates obtained a residency position in 2024.  Our students qualify for USMLE and we are proud to announce over 90% of first time applicants passed USMLE Step 2 CK last year.
