    Wilkes University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Science and Engineering.

    Wilkes University is an independent, non-sectarian Doctoral Professional institution of higher education with approximately 2,260 students at the undergraduate level and over 1,250 full time equivalent students at the graduate and first professional levels. Its institutional focus is on contributing vitally to economic development of Northeastern Pennsylvania and developing strong mentoring relationships with each of its students.     The next Dean will play a key role in helping Wilkes University achieve academic preeminence, within a college whose faculty are committed to creating a distinction for the College for integrating science and engineering in creative and mentoring ways that promote student retention, academic and career success.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for academic and administrative leadership of the diverse programs and faculty of the College and represents the college internally and externally. Within the College, there are seven departments; Biology and Health Science, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Electrical Engineering and Physics, Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Management, and Aerospace Studies that offer undergraduate and several graduate programs. As a member of the President's Cabinet, the Dean has a significant opportunity and responsibility for leadership of the University.

    The Dean will have the vision and leadership skills to guide the college to new levels of achievement and recognition for an integrated approach to science and engineering through:

    - Development of an ambitious strategic plan for the College that integrates science and engineering, building on the passion of the faculty.
    - Realizing the College's strategic vision and direction for the delivery of creative and student-centered curriculum, instruction, and learning support.
    - Cultivation of a strong leadership team of department and program chairs
    - Allocation and management of human and fiscal resources necessary to achieve the goals of the strategic plan, including recruitment, retention and development of diverse and talented faculty.
    - Assessment of College progress toward achievement of its strategic goals and implementation of necessary course corrections.
    - Reinforcement and supporting a culture of strong student mentorship, improved student retention, and overall student success.
    - Strong partnership with the Advancement division to cultivate donor relationships and raise funds for the College.
    - Coordination of interactions among chairs, faculty, and the engineering Industrial Advisory Board (IAB), which the new dean will expand to support an integrated approach to science and engineering.
    - Ensure that all programs within the college meet specialized accreditation standards in both science and engineering, including ABET and regional accreditation standards.
    - Development of annual plans and budgets that ensures that key priorities/strategies are informed and driven by data/market analysis.
    - Identification of improvement areas and advocates for resource needs, including personnel and technology.
    - Enhancement of the culture of sponsored research commensurate with a Doctoral Professional Institution with adaptive models for faculty loading.

    The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

    - a doctorate or other appropriate terminal degree in an academic discipline within science or engineering,
    - a distinguished record of teaching, scholarship and service, commensurate with appointment to the rank of professor;
    an understanding of curricular processes and new program development,
    - at least five years of substantial experience as an administrator, including personnel management, preferably within an academic department,
    - strong financial and budgetary expertise,
    - a demonstrated ability to procure external funding,
    - a keen awareness of the latest trends in higher education,
    - demonstrated commitment to shared governance in a complex collegial environment.
