Position Summary

The Assistant Athletics Director - Equipment Operations is responsible for directing, planning, organizing and implementing the functions required to efficiently manage the Department of Athletics equipment room operations including 24 sports. This position will be responsible to be point person on several sports (specific sports to be determined in consult with supervisor).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management of all equipment, apparel, and footwear needs for 24 varsity programs, to include the inventory control system, issuance and collection of all gear and equipment.
  • Responsible for the Equipment operations budget, inventory control, and Nike contract and fulfillment.
  • Supervise the Equipment Room staff including the assignment of all duties and tasks.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of inventory control systems, to include the evaluation, ordering and receiving of equipment.
  • Negotiate bids with vendors to purchase the necessary equipment for all varsity programs.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, supervision, scheduling and payroll of student workers.
  • Responsible for securing and storing athletics equipment for all varsity programs.
  • Responsible for the evaluation (for safety purposes), maintenance, repair and replacement of equipment for varsity programs.
  • Responsible for laundering practice and game uniforms for all in-season varsity programs.
  • Manage relationships with current Athletics Department vendors.
  • Responsible for some game management duties.
  • Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree required.
  • Experience in either professional or collegiate sports equipment operations.
  • Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with implementing and managing inventory control systems, purchasing, fitting and repairing equipment. ** Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations pertaining to uniforms and equipment.
  • Proficiency with personal computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, database).
  • Experience using industrial laundry equipment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Athletic Equipment Managers Association (A.E.M.A.) Certification preferred.
  • Intercollegiate sports management experience a plus.


Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours

  • Professional work environment.
  • Driving a light truck while transporting equipment.
  • Considerable work time outside in various weather conditions.
  • Heavy lifting, carrying equipment, walking.
  • Operating industrial laundry equipment.
  • Some travel.
  • Significant night and weekend hours.
