This position will provide leadership and oversight for the Center for Black Studies. Primary responsibility includes general oversight and monitoring of department to ensure that it has optimal interaction with, and support of, the students, larger university and DeKalb community.
This position reports to the Senior Associate Vice President for Academic Diversity/Chief Diversity Officer (SAVP/CDO).
The person in this position should possess cultural competency, knowledge of African American culture and history and current events related to the African diaspora; and demonstrated ability to function well in a diverse work and service environment interfacing with diverse students; exceptionally strong interpersonal and communication skills with sound judgment and decision-making; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build rapport with internal and external constituencies such as university leadership, faculty and staff, community, and school representatives. Excellent planning and organizational leadership skills; ability to solve a variety of problems, whether academic, project management, performance, financial, or other related issues; demonstrated budgeting, financial management, and program assessment skills; and practical application and experience with databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software.
