JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Responsibilities: Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President and General Counsel, the Associate General Counsel will have exposure to everything that takes place on campus. Duties include:

  • Negotiate and draft agreements related to undergraduate and graduate projects, project centers, and project sponsors; faculty and graduate research; and partnerships and agreements with other universities, governmental and commercial entities;
  • Manage and oversee litigation, charges, claims, and complaints, in coordination with outside legal counsel.
  • Research, analyze, and remain current on applicable federal and state laws, regulations, agency guidance and court precedent applicable to WPI.
  • Develop and provide training and educational programs for employees and other WPI constituents.
  • Develop and revise policies, procedures, and forms.
  • Serve on committees, working groups and special projects as assigned by the General Counsel.
  • Support the maintenance of a campus climate that values and respects diversity, equity, inclusion, and full participation.
  • Other duties as assigned by the General Counsel.

  • Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President and General Counsel, the Assistant General Counsel will have exposure to everything that takes place on campus. A significant portion of the role will involve working with faculty and staff to negotiate and draft agreements related to undergraduate and graduate projects, project centers, and project sponsors; faculty and graduate research; and partnerships and agreements with other universities, governmental and commercial entities. Additional duties may be assigned.


Requirements:

  • J.D. is required
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • A demonstrated interest in a wide variety of substantive legal areas
  • An ability to work well with others in a team-oriented manner
  • Experience in a college or university, large law firm or in-house legal department is preferred
