As one of the nation’s leading research and land-grant institutions and a member of the Association of American Universities, The University of Arizona, seeks a proven leader to execute UA’s strategic plan to set a new standard for global impact and mobility. This leader will define the global agenda, expanding access to global experiences for students and faculty, embracing global educational partners, and scaling global research impact. Central to this mission will be to build upon UA’s recent designation by the U.S. Department of Education as a Hispanic Serving Institution.
Reporting directly to the Provost and working collaboratively across the University’s colleges and campuses, the Vice Provost for Global Affairs will articulate an innovative approach for global impact and should have a proven track record of previous successes in pursing the development of new agendas and programs. Charged with building UA’s new organization, UA Global, the successful candidate will lead the University’s efforts on both global education and global research, expanding on UA’s established connections and partnerships. This ‘global’ mission is as a central part of the University’s most recent strategic plan, and this leader will be responsible for ensuring UA Global’s alignment with the institution’s strategic direction and priorities.
Tactically, this leader will consolidate relevant operations of the University into UA Global, including global recruiting, UA-affiliated international high schools, UA Study Abroad, and the global micro-campus network (micro-campuses are designated UA locations with partner universities around the globe). Long-term, the Vice Provost will partner with international institutions to expand UA’s educational and research programs, while leveraging our already extensive UA faculty, alumni, and institutional partner networks. UA Global is poised to become a national leader in study abroad and global experiences, with an emphasis on access, inclusion, and quality.

Duties & Responsibilities
Lead the merger and cultural integration of the UA Office of Global Initiatives and the UA Office of International Education that establishes a new organizational unit: UA Global
Lead a diverse team of direct reports and staff to support the initial main missions of UA Global: Global Operations, International Education, and Global Student Recruiting
Collaborate with cross-campus partners to identify, promote, and facilitate the pursuit of global research, projects, and contract opportunities
Manage the budget of UA Global
Partner with international educational institutions, UA colleges, and UA departments to execute on micro-campus education and fulfill the strategic vision of delivering UA education at the micro-campus locations
Expand current efforts in study abroad to include additional UA students, US students from other universities, online students, and international students
Build a network of Arizona-affiliated international high schools that will provide college pathway programs, act as feeder schools to the UA main campus as well as the micro-campus locations, and build the UA global brand
Increase our international student recruiting success both at the micro-campus locations and UA main campus
Work with UA’s Research, Discovery, and Innovation (RDI), college deans, and department/unit leaders to expand global research partnerships, projects, and funding as part of the larger model of sustainable, intellectually and financially viable global partnerships in line with the history and goals of a great public research university
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
The selected candidate must possess:
Proven leadership ability, including successful management of large, higher performing team(s) with a focus on quality service
Deep understanding of global issues as they relate to international education
A track record and demonstrated commitment to achieving and sustaining diversity, access, and inclusion
Leadership in a complex academic, governmental, or business organization and an ability to build and sustain internal and external collaborations
Ability to manage a multi-million-dollar budget
Knowledge of best practices in fiscal management, and experience with fund raising and development
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including effective interpersonal skills in working with individuals and groups
PhD, JD, MBA, or similar advanced degree
Leadership in national or international organizations related to topics in the realm of international education
Familiarity with the use of data science to drive innovation in international student recruiting and education delivery
Demonstrated experience in progressive leadership and academic entrepreneurship with a proven track record of developing and accessing programs
Ability to be tenured in a department appropriate to the candidate’s own academic background and training
