Manager - Academic Policy and Faculty Relations

Academic Affairs is seeking a manager to support academic policy development, review, and revisions for Academic Affairs and supports policy review, development, and implementation across the institution. Responsible for providing expert consultation services and conflict resolution/mediation solutions to University faculty members and their supervisors. Supports and advises faculty members on how to resolve a broad spectrum of human resources issues to enhance the work environment. Investigates faculty members' complaints and disputes and academic and related policy violations. Recommends disciplinary action when appropriate to the appropriate supervisor(s). Working with HR and General Counsel, educates new and current faculty members on employee relations issues and policies. Supervises Faculty Relations Coordinator. Represents AVP in policy process when necessary.

Required Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelors degree plus three to five years of related experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling at least seven years.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of higher education and UVU policy and procedures, with primary focus on academic policies and procedures that affect faculty.
  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience in mediation, investigations, and research.
  • Knowledge of trends in higher education related to civility, discipline, and faculty relations.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced skills in designing and editing documents and presentation materials in a variety of formats for use by others.
  • Extracting, analyzing, transmitting, and maintaining information from a variety of sources.
  • Lead effective trainings.
  • Mediating disputes between/among faculty.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills
  • Thoroughly investigate and fact-find
  • Excellent proofreading and editing for grammar, spelling, syntax and style; detecting discrepancies in information or records.
  • Apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people.
  • Maintain high level of confidentiality in regards to all incoming and outgoing correspondence and sensitive information regarding all topics.
  • Understand and follow verbal and written instructions; read and comprehend written materials.
  • Work independently.
  • Work with other units on campus to achieve objectives.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding inter-personal conflicts.
  • Effectively supervise.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree or higher with one or more years in a related field.

Physical Requirements:

Work is performed in a normal office environment.

FLSA: Exempt

Pay Range: $52,325 - $65,440
