Position Summary
The Assistant Director is a member of the Housing and Residential Services Leadership and Management Team. The Assistant Director provides developmental supervision for professional and paraprofessional staff. This position is responsible for providing leadership and overseeing residential facility operations and the departmental Work Request Office which oversees daily maintenance and repair requests, inventory asset control, condition assessments, furniture repair, storage management, door access programming and facility safety systems.

As a member of the Leadership Team for the department, the position also provides leadership in the development of long and short range planning, policy development, staff training and in service programs, on duty/crisis response rotation, and participation in departmental, divisional and university committees. The individual in this position works under the supervision of the Executive Director of Housing and Residential Services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position is the primary liaison with campus departments that provide facility services including Building Services, Physical Plant, Heat Plant, Buildings and Grounds, Key Control, Architectural and Engineering Services, Campus Onecard and Environmental Health and Safety. Building Services, laundry services, storage management, door access and facility safety systems. The Assistant Director also oversees the process for allocating and monitoring residential spaces provided to other university offices/operations, as well as occupancy of residential apartments for faculty, staff, and university sponsored scholars.

This position also collaborates with other units in the Division of Student Affairs, the academic colleges, and other campus resources to develop, support and, implement safety and security policies and procedures, and provide emergency response. The Assistant Director will communicate effectively with students, parents, university employees, and the public. This position requires high levels of and demonstrated experience in independent thinking, decision-making, diplomacy, policy development and implementation, problem analysis, and strategic planning.

Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)
CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER
1. High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
2. Any combination totaling six years from the following categories: a) housing, residential life, hospitality, business, or closely related work experiences, b) college course work in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel Administration, Hospitality Sciences, Business Sciences, Social or Behavioral Sciences, and/or related disciplines, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent: ● 30 semester hours equals six (6) months ● 60 semester hours or Associate’s Degree equals one (1) year ● 90 semester hours equals two (2) years ● 120 semester hours or Bachelor’s Degree equals three (3) years ● Master Degree or higher equals four (4) years
