Department Summary
New College is the newest academic college at the University of North Texas with four undergraduate degree programs that focus on project-based learning and design thinking. The college is split in two locations and provides degree opportunities for students in Denton, Frisco, and online globally.

Position Overview
This position is responsible for the coordination and administration of advising services of an assigned college or area. The position manages departmental processes and functions as advising office resource expert for more complex advising issues. This position also collaborates and assists in the development and implementation of assigned departmental projects and educational programs, exercising considerable initiative and independent judgment in the performance of assigned duties.

This role operates in a professional environment and routinely requires travel between the Denton and Frisco sites as the lead for an advising team that proudly serves students in multiple locations (currently Sage Hall and Frisco’s Hall Park A).

Work completed independently with minimal guidance, but in close partnership with the Academic Associate Dean as we build and recruit for new UNT degrees and develop a new professional advising unit. Assignments are made in terms of broad practice, precedents, policies and goals. Work may be reviewed for fulfillment of college and Frisco site outcomes and for conformance with policies and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree and four years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, professional academic advising, or related experience.

  • Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
  • Current knowledge of student development and counseling theory.
  • Strong leadership skills appropriate for a supportive, dynamic environment.
  • Strong presentation skills, critical thinking skills, creative problem solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
