Tufts Global Education (TGE) serves as a hub of international programs and initiatives at the School of Arts & Science and School of Engineering. TGE oversees study abroad, international exchange programs, international learning collaborations, and faculty-led custom programs. We currently operate 11 of our own programs, Tufts Programs Abroad, in Chile, China, Ghana, Hong Kong, Japan, London, Madrid, Oxford, Paris, Pavia, and Tübingen. We facilitate student participation in approved partner programs throughout the world. TGE develops custom programs abroad during winter and summer sessions. Around 45% of the junior class studies abroad for a semester or a full academic year. We host international exchange students and visiting scholars who attend Tufts for an academic term or custom program. The division works with faculty, students, and Tufts University on global engagement.

What You'll Do

This is a hybrid role. During the academic semesters, the expectation is that this role will be fully on campus 5 days a week, with an opportunity for remote flexibility during the summer break. Opportunities may exist in the future for 4 days a week on campus after the first year.


The Program Manager is an exciting opportunity for a professional who is passionate about 1-on-1 student advising, helping undergraduate students find academically appropriate education abroad opportunities within a designated portfolio of programs, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for students, and contributing to the TGE’s implementation of DEIJ practices in education abroad. This position will be highly involved with our Know Before You Go (KBUG) identity series and this individual should be comfortable working with Tufts’ Identity Centers and supporting students of varying and intersecting identities. Additionally, this position will work and gain experience in the areas of: Advising, Student Outreach & Education, Transfer of Credit, Program Assessment and Partnerships & Projects.


Responsibilities include:

  • Patiently supports students with the timely completion of their Tufts application requirements, home school nomination forms, transfer of credit requests, and throughout the education abroad life cycle
  • Drive, enthusiasm, and excitement for education abroad when organizing campus events and serving as a departmental outreach representative at: study abroad fairs, information sessions, during tabling hours, academic classroom visits, external program partner events, general Tufts-sponsored events
  • Collaborating with Tufts’ student groups and identity centers in the preparation of our annual Know Before You Go (KBUG) identity series and assisting with developing new student programs
  • Supports the Assistant Director for Tufts Global Education Programs and will gain insight and experience with:
    • Transfer of international credit processes and guidelines
    • Student programming design, logistics, and implementation
    • Coordinating marketing and promotion efforts to meet division and institutional goals
    • Short-term program management and support
    • Program assessment, focus groups, and analyzing data related to the education abroad experience
    • Other essential projects and administrative processes related to the effective delivery of education abroad programs

Basic Requirements:

  • Knowledge and skills typically acquired through bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2-4 years of relevant experience in student advising, preferably within higher education or international programs (global education, study abroad or cultural exchange) [note: consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of experience and preferred education]
  • Experience in a role that involves advising, mentoring, counseling, conducting orientations or other student services
  • Significant experience studying, living, working, or volunteering abroad
  • Familiarity with intercultural learning, cross cultural communication, and student development; sensitivity to cultural differences
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills that support the development of positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, and institutional partners
  • Superb attention to detail, initiative, resourcefulness, and problem-solving
  • Ability to take initiative, and work both independently and collaboratively with strong follow through
  • Highly organized multi-tasker with effective time-management skills and ability to navigate high volumes of work and competing priorities/student needs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness and availability for a flexible work schedule and assignment, including occasional evenings and weekends
  • Proficient in MS Office, Google Suite, and Zoom; ability and eagerness to learn new software programs
  • Ability to use good judgement, maintain confidential information, identify, and report on emerging student/process issues, and exhibit patience in a fast-paced work environment
  • Excellent organizational skills; proven attention to detail and strong follow through
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
  • Exhibits a growth mindset and love for learning and professional development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MA Degree
  • Strength in administrating or supporting international education/study abroad processes
  • Experience in advising undergraduate students in a higher education setting
  • Foundational knowledge of underrepresented and first-gen student experiences in higher education and/or education abroad and inclusion concepts like intersectionality
  • Knowledge of short-term program enrollment processes and program support
  • Skilled in delivering student programs from conception to organizing, booking, and scheduling, promotion, assessment, etc.
  • Comfort with providing guidance to student workers and global ambassadors
  • Experience working with a diverse and international student and staff population
  • Communication and outreach experience
  • Knowledge of other languages desirable
  • Knowledge or ease with software, CRM systems, and cloud-based programs. Familiarity with Canvas, Canva, InDesign, and Terra Dotta
  • Should be energetic, patient, flexible, and open to diverse work styles

Special Work Schedule Requirements:

  • This is an in-person role based in Medford, MA
