The Director of Foundation Events and Strategic Advancement is the principal administrator of all events-driven strategic fundraising initiatives for the Division of Advancement, and works within the Gift Planning Team to identify, solicit, and steward a portfolio of prospects. The primary responsibility is to develop and manage all events-driven fundraising initiatives, including but not limited to: multiple major fundraising galas annually, University Presidential dinners, and campaign-related initiatives focusing on high wealth individuals. This position is responsible for delivering an events-driven fundraising target resulting in a net revenue of $1M annually, and therefore is critical to the overall Divisional fundraising campaign.
Duties and Responsibilities (generally)
This position provides strategic oversight for the events-driven development, marketing, and execution of all campaign-related initiatives including campaign kick-off, campaign close, and blitz initiatives locally, regionally and nationally. This position ensures these initiatives are focused to net revenue of $1M annually. This position monitors and controls departmental budgets, and has authority to negotiate contracts.
This position’s responsibilities are focused on enhancing the Foundation’s prospect pool and donor base before, during and following the fundraising campaigns, and requires continuous interaction with alumni, donors, prospects, deans, and boards. As such, this position requires excellent communications skills, the ability to relate complex strategies to every constituent, and the ability to oversee multiple functions at a highly professional level.
This position operates under the overarching goals of presenting the Foundation’s mission effectively, and developing and maintaining goodwill with current and potential donors, friends and associates of the Foundation and University.
Minimum Required Qualifications for this position
1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. Five (5) years major event planning/management experience is required, including administrative oversight responsibilities.
3. Five (5) years of experience with successful major fundraising events and securing significant events sponsorship.
4. Two (2) years of professional experience in a collegiate and/or nonprofit environment.
5. Experience working within a matrixed organizational structure where performance responsibilities are evaluated in different divisions.
6. Demonstrable portfolio, included in application materials, of and experience designing and executing signature events that raised significant net revenue.
7. Demonstrated exceptional writing skills, strong oral communication with group presentation skills, evidenced within resume and cover letter.
8. Familiarity with the "moves management" approach to major gift fundraising, evidenced within the resume or cover letter.
9. Experience in the allocation of budget resources to provide and promote the highest levels of productivity in development initiatives.
Education and Experience Preferred
1. Advanced degree and/or professional designation (CFRE).
2. Capital campaign experience in higher education is highly desirable.
