The College of Education at Oregon State University invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, Head Academic Advisor position. This position is in alignment with the College of Education’s Strategic Plan and Oregon State University’s commitment to student success.
The Head Academic Advisor position will support the College of Education’s undergraduate advising and recruitment efforts and will be reviewed for renewal on an annual basis at the discretion of the Dean.
The Head Academic Advisor provides clear and comprehensive support for students during the pre-application and mid-program stages of their academic and career planning. This role communicates university academic policy and procedures to assist students in making decisions concerning personal educational goals leading to graduation. The Head Academic Advisor will also develop partnerships with undergraduate advisors, the Registrar’s Office, academic faculty, College leadership, and other entities as necessary to promote and supports programs and student success.
The Head Academic Advisor serves as an advocate for the College of Education, teacher education, diversity and inclusion, and social justice. The incumbent directs academic advising activities and leads undergraduate outreach and recruitment efforts on behalf of the College of Education. They assist pre-service teacher candidates in academic program planning, as well as establishing and accomplishing career preparation goals and objectives; help monitor progress of degree-seeking students; advise and orient students regarding university and major-specific regulations related to degree completion; support retention of current teacher candidates; develop partnerships with external partners to increase the visibility of degree pathways to a broad base of prospective students.
This position, along with all positions within the College of Education, is directly responsible for advancing the mission of the College.
The College of Education contributes to major national dialogues concerning research and the promotion of social justice in (1) the success of English language learners of all ages; (2) developmentally appropriate pedagogy for all ages; (3) learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics inside and outside of school; (4) the preparation of mental health and school counselors; (5) adult and higher education leadership.
