The College of Medicine Office for Diversity and Inclusion represents the broad definition of diversity, which includes identity, perspective, race/ethnicity, socio-economic, religion, geography, international, LGBTQ* status, gender, etc. The Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion will provide oversight for all diversity and inclusion activities that support students, residents, fellows, and faculty and staff members of the College of Medicine, which include the Lexington, Bowling Green, Morehead, and Northern Kentucky campuses.
The Associate Dean will create and implement a strategic diversity and inclusion plan for the College of Medicine that is consistent with the University of Kentucky’s strategic initiatives related to diversity and inclusivity, and includes plans for the recruitment and retention of underrepresented minority, disadvantaged, and rural students, and faculty. Through quantitative and qualitative means, the Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion will assess the college climate, both in small and large group settings, and create and implement needed face-to-face and web-based resources that advance signature diversity programs and initiatives that align with the College’s broad definition of diversity.
The Associate Dean will take the lead role in creating an inclusive academic and patient-centered environment that promotes culturally competent and culturally responsive care. The Associate Dean will work collaboratively with the University’s Vice President for Institutional Diversity and the Executive Director for Inclusive Health and Campus Partnerships in the development of inter-professional pipeline programs and other activities. In addition to administrative duties, the Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion will participate as a faculty member in an appropriate department with limited roles in teaching, scholarship and/or clinical work, as appropriate.
This position will be primarily administrative in leading the College’s diversity and inclusion efforts. Distribution of effort for teaching, research, or clinical service, as well as tenure eligibility and title series, will be determined based on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
