Because this position also serves the Center for Equity, Education and Excellence (CE3), importance should be placed on also understanding the department. CE3 is a cluster of multiple student support programs in the Division of Equity and Inclusion. CE3 provides complex and multi-format programs and services to priority student populations to ensure their successful transition into the academy, academic success, graduation, and transition to graduate programs and professional careers. These services have a critical impact on the campus' ability to fulfill its mission of equity, access, and inclusion to California's diverse population.

This position takes special steps to sensitize and enlighten undergraduate admissions staff to the special interests and needs of this population/identified cohort; acts as the primary point person in determining, organizing and conducting yield efforts for these populations; develop, strengthen, and expand key existing partnerships and opportunities, as well as identify, create, and build new partnerships with community-based organizations to determine what support groups and systems are available outside of Berkeley in helping to identify and prepare students from these groups for college admission in general and Berkeley in particular. Propose, plan and execute travel in support of the outreach and yield efforts for these groups.
- Recruitment & Yield, Program/Cohort Development, Coordination, and Leadership: Serves as territory manager and point of contact for all assigned schools/community colleges within a designated territory and/or cohort. Represents the University of California, Berkeley at school/community college visits, college nights/fairs, transfer days/fairs as assigned. Behaves in a manner that promotes goodwill on behalf of the University. Plans visits to schools, schedules and makes presentations, interviews, and follow-up visits (virtually, if needed).Plans, manages and implements events to enhance recruitment and yield diversity initiative events, mentoring programs, and electronic communications.Assists the CE3 and student services leadership in developing program policy and short- and long-range planning of program goals and activities. Charged with initiating and managing the strategic long-term planning efforts to enhance outreach efforts, retention, advocacy,, enhancing collaboration between the student organization and CE3 program including business model development & evaluation. Supports development of strategies and new approaches that address the specialized needs of students at the high school senior and Berkeley freshmxn levels.
- Advising & Retention Support: Plans and implements program activities and events to engage students in campus life and help them integrate socially and academically. Plans, develops and implements services, resources activities, transition course (NavCal), community-building events, student panels, and presentations. Coordinates academic and enrichment workshops.Meets regularly and one-on-one with cohort students, analyzes and assesses student needs in making appropriate referrals for academic, financial, personal and/or career counseling. Facilitates topic-based small group discussions. Conducts follow-up and outreach activities with students. Serves as a liaison between students, parents, school site educators, school site educators, colleges/universities, community agencies, and UC Berkeley's student support programs in CE3 and other colleges/departments. Provides in-depth information sessions on admissions requirements/selection/eligibility requirements, prerequisite courses, school/college programs and transition to First Year Bear curricula.
- Application Review: Serves as lead reader for assigned territory, including the training and management of assigned external readers. Reads and scores applications for freshman and transfer admission. Uses professional judgment when reviewing complex applications for admission. Using extensive knowledge of college/school/department requirements and applicant pool, assesses the applicants' overall record and experience for final admissions recommendation.
- Assessment & Evaluation: Maintains a caseload of newly admitted students. Performs course-by-course evaluations for transfer credits. Evaluates transcripts for prospective, new and continuing students. Mandates supplemental academic preparation as condition of admission where appropriate. Determines if applicant has met specific University/campus requirements at point of admission. Finalizes applicants' entrance records for the University. Tracks and evaluates program effectiveness and student outcomes through online surveys and by monitoring academic performance. Develops strategies to improve outcomes and meet changing service and business needs with efficiency. Prepares and submits written semi-annual reports to the board and CE3 management. Collects statistical data and reports on admissions, retention/persistence, and graduates.
- Campus Partnerships & Fundraising Support: Plans, develops, coordinates and implements activities for first-year transition for undergraduate student development in partnership with campus programs. Plays a key role to support fundraising and stewardship by identifying and potentially bringing in philanthropic donors. Responsible for cultivating and maintaining relations with long-term funding partners to expand potential initiatives.
- Professional Development, Program Supervision & Training: Maintains knowledge of and utilizes current references and resources,. Participates in state, regional and national associations and events relating to recruitment, admissions, and/or persistence in higher education. Additional business needs of the office as assigned. Develops and oversees the training and supervision of NavCal Mentors. Works closely with CE3 management to train campus personnel on program elements and services and policy issues impeding the success of cohort students.Professional development: participates in seminars, workshops, conferences, training opportunities, etc. to support students from diverse backgrounds
- Thorough knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population. Takes an asset-based and culturally-informed approach to working with diverse student and community populations.
- Ability to accurately interpret and communicate University policies and procedures to prospective students and the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations, and other institutions.
- Ability to develop recruitment plans and programs, and design effective materials.
- Must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of all associations and agencies to which the Berkeley campus of the University of California adheres, and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Salary & Benefits
