Director of Institutional Research – Office of Institutional Research – (20001678)
The Office of Institutional Research serves as a research resource to the university community providing such services as compiling official university statistics, consulting on survey design and designing, executing and reporting entire projects. The office completes outcome assessment projects and policy analyses for various offices and schools with the university.
The Director of Institutional Research directs and coordinates the activities of the Office of Institutional Research in support of Tufts University’s mission, strategic goals and initiatives, and efforts related to data‑informed decision making. The Director is responsible for setting the direction of the office, overseeing the budget, managing the staff, and ensuring that the research conducted by the office is of the very highest quality.
Manages the Office of Institutional Research.
Establishes the direction of the office, including making decisions about projects that will be undertaken and the utilization of new technologies to improve efficiencies.
Represents the office at meetings with senior administrators and university clients. Establishes relations with institutional research personnel at other higher education institutions and serves as principal liaison with external agencies. Stays abreast of regulations and trends affecting higher education.
Oversees data compilation, report development and archiving activities in support of university research goals.
Provides guidance and supervision to Associate & Assistant Directors, Research Analysts and other office staff.
Provides technical, research and statistical consultation and support to the university community.
Manages responsibility for the department budget and budget projects.
Knowledge and skills as typically acquired through completion of Master’s degree in related field and 5 years of institutional research experience.
Ability to design survey instruments; knowledge of appropriate statistical methods; ability to present statistical findings in clear, concise understandable format; ability to design web-based survey instruments; in-depth knowledge of statistical and data visualization tools; commitment to professional development; basic knowledge of html and web design; firm understanding of the landscape of higher education, including federal regulations; ability to share expertise and knowledge in support of the skill-building of others.

Ph.D. in related field or 10 years of experience working in an institutional research office with increasing levels of responsibility.
Experience with the data systems and technologies available at Tufts (e.g. PeopleSoft Campus Solutions; Business Objects; Tableau; SPSS) a major plus.
