Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU), an "institution of the first-class" in the Texas constitution and a member of the Texas A&M University System, invites applications, nominations, and expressions of interest for the position of Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs (Provost).

Located in Prairie View, Texas - about 50 miles from downtown Houston - the 1,440-acre campus lives up to its unofficial motto, "Prairie View Produces Productive People." The university has the honor of counting among its graduates a Brigadier General, the first Black female engineer to be registered by the state of Texas, the founder of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), numerous academicians, professional athletes, an Olympic Gold Medalist, entertainers, and artists who have made tremendous impacts on their communities and the world.

PVAMU is the second-oldest public institution in Texas. Empowered by a shared sense of history and experience as well as PVAMU's relentless commitment to providing the highest quality of education, research, and service, its graduates make their mark as scholars and leaders in their fields. Established in 1876 as a land-grant institution, the university enrolls over 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Students from Texas form the majority of the population, followed by students from California. The total student population hails from 44 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and 87 countries. The university has eight colleges and schools, most of which are accredited by professional bodies (ABET, AACSB International, other) and numerous research centers housed on the main campus. The university offers 36 bachelor's degree programs, 31 master's degree programs, and six doctoral programs.

The provost reports to President Tomikia P. LeGrande, Ed.D. and serves as a senior member of the President's Leadership Team (Cabinet). The provost is responsible for academic leadership within the university and ensuring the superior quality of curricula, teaching, research, and service. Additionally, the provost provides leadership to staff in academic affairs, enrollment management, academic engagement and student success, and University College.

The next provost of PVAMU will be expected to support the advancement of the university's long-range strategic plan; advance and define shared governance for the university; recruit, retain, and support top-notch faculty; enhance student success; ensure continuation of SACSCOC and other professional accreditations; and develop strategic relationships for the benefit of the university. Candidates must have a minimum of five years of senior academic and administrative leadership experience, a distinguished record of academic leadership and accomplishment commensurate with appointment at the rank of full professor in one of the university's academic departments, an understanding and appreciation of the mission of HBCUs and land-grant institutions, and the ability to effectively communicate with a variety of constituents. Additionally, candidates should have a demonstrated record of effectively utilizing existing resources and generating new resources to achieve institutional priorities, embracing technology and innovations in higher education, and demonstrated experience building strong teams, empowering them to lead initiatives and activities that advance the strategic goals of an institution, as well as a record of supporting the development and success of faculty and academic leadership to ensure excellence in teaching, research, and service.
