The Director of the Distinguished Visiting Scholars Program will be a member of the Diversity, Equity and Belonging (DEB) team in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and will work closely with the Associate Deans for Inclusive Excellence to advance the DEB mission of the College.
As Director, you will be responsible for the leadership, management, further development, and operations of the highly visible Distinguished Visiting Scholars Program in the College. In support to the DEB team, you will also partake in short- and longer-term program planning and implementation to promote inclusion, diversity, equality, and community within the College community.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
Development and Oversight for the Distinguished Visiting Scholars (DVS) Program including recruitment:
Lead the formation, communication strategy, and implementation of the vision for the Distinguished Visiting Scholars Program.
Outline the goals, programmatic elements, eligibility criteria, and selection process for the DVS program that includes a broad-based search committee and CAS HR staff as strategic partners.
Implement annual recruitment and promotion plans attaining high national visibility for the program.
Monitor the annual selection committee process to ensure on-time selections, notification of selected Scholars, departmental recruitment, and successful recruitment of Scholars.
Manage the programming and activities of DVS cohort across the academic year.
Identify areas of greatest potential impact and metrics by which the success of the DVS program will be evaluated.
Leadership and Operations for the Distinguished Visiting Scholars Program:
Assist incoming scholars with transition to UB and Western New York for their one-year residency.
Plan on-boarding activities for Visiting Scholars and activities to introduce them to the larger College and University community.
Create cohort activities and communication plans, including maintenance of a DVS website and social media outlets, for Scholars that highlight the program.
Serve as main point-of-contact for Scholars to ensure their integration with the College faculty, staff, and students is smooth and supported.
Create platforms for Scholars to mentor UB students and faculty and to share their research, scholarship, and creative activities.
Work with the College Unit Business Officer to develop and work within an annual budget.
Generally, provide Scholars with an experience that is structured in a way that encourages them to consider permanent opportunities at UB if the relevant department is supportive.
Other Events and Programming
Ensure that the College is offering adequate and appropriate programs and services that supplement the DVS program to promote inclusion, diversity, equality, and community within the College community.
Build coalitions of faculty, staff, and student groups, and work with CAS departments to organize and promote student-centered programming, all in collaboration with the CAS Diversity, Equity and Belonging team.
Work in coordination with the Assistant Dean for Communications as necessary to publicize events related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
May provide workshops or trainings on diversity and belonging topics (as appropriate) to increase awareness and education of the College community.
