For the position of Associate Vice Provost for Academic Planning (AVPAP), the University at Buffalo seeks to recruit a talented strategic and academic planner with a creative approach to problem solving to coordinate and facilitate new and emerging academic programs and initiatives.
The AVPAP reports to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the university’s chief academic officer responsible for leading the development and implementation of the university’s academic vision. The AVPAP provides support for all academic initiatives and priorities across the academic enterprise directly on behalf of the Provost. The AVPAP supports and serves as a critical resource for the Provost, Deans and other senior leaders in planning, coordinating, and identifying key academic initiatives that further the university’s academic and academic support mission. The AVPAP provides significant strategic and visionary leadership leading to development of academic programs and initiatives which significantly impact the university.
Specifically, the AVPAP will:
- Create, plan and facilitate implementation of academic policies and new and emerging academic projects on behalf of the Provost.
- Provide strategic leadership and vision to create, coordinate and facilitate new and emerging academic initiatives and projects that cut across academic and academic support units
- Work with academic and academic support units to align unit goals and initiatives with institutional priorities and processes
- Develop, execute and monitor strategies to accomplish institutional academic priorities, academic hiring plans, and central and SUNY academic investment initiatives and programs
- Recommend organizing frameworks for academic initiatives and projects
- Chair the Educational Collaborations Committee and in this capacity work with Deans and their staffs to build multi-decanal academic programs.
- As the Provost’s representative, collaborate with Resource Planning, Financial Services, Student Affairs and Educational Affairs in making recommendations on fees and financial implications of building new academic programs
- Represent the Provost on the Space Policy Committee and in conversations between and among Deans with regard to space needs and other capital planning priorities
- Collaborate with Vice President for Research and Economic Development on special projects and programs
- Other duties as assigned by the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. May represent the Provost as requested at on or off-campus meetings and events, with faculty, students, government representatives and the general public.
Master’s degree or terminal degree with 5-10 years of experience in higher education. The successful candidate will be an experienced academic administrator with experience in academic program planning and development as well as:
- Experience facilitating teams of faculty or staff
- A creative approach to problem solving
- Ability to collaborate effectively with university leadership, faculty and staff in coordinating university programs and initiatives
- Superior communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with academic and administrative colleagues at all levels
