Public Relations/Marketing Admissions/Financial Aid
Lake Superior State University invites applicants and nominations for the Dean of Admission, financial aid, and Marketing position. The Dean reports directly to the President, serves on the Senior Management Team, and provides executive-level leadership and vision in the administration of a comprehensive range of services, policies and procedures related to admissions and marketing.
We seek an enthusiastic, entrepreneurial individual to embrace the tremendous opportunity to work with an innovative team to lead the University in an exciting new direction. In particular, we seek someone dedicated to the following areas and who has demonstrated success in these areas:
developing and implementing data-driven marketing and recruitment strategies to achieve enrollment goals for undergraduate and graduate students (including transfer, domestic, and international markets) by effectively utilizing data from a variety of sources to evaluate student characteristics and trends, as well as the University’s market position and competition
developing strategic ways to increase the effectiveness of each step to enroll a student, including the steps from inquiry to application/application to admit/admit to enrolled student
student software systems, or other databases common to higher education and/or university admissions and financial aid
leading a team of undergraduate admissions professionals, offering mentorship, training and professional development opportunities to ensure admissions team members are effective recruiters, strategic territory managers and engaging presenters
knowledge of higher education admissions strategies and recruitment efforts, financial aid, scholarships, and programs
utilizing Financial Services to effectively leverage financial aid packaging, process scholarships, train admissions staff, and provide financial literacy opportunities to prospective students and their families.

Lake Superior University is located in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, bordering Canada and surrounded by the Great Lakes. With four seasons, it’s a prime location for any outdoor enthusiast. The Dean of Admissions and Marketing will join an innovative and dynamic senior management team headed by President Rodney Hanley. President Hanley aspires to lead the University to new heights through a strategy that builds on strong enrollments across colleges and programs, a regional and global footprint and a solid financial position for new leadership.
Bachelor’s degree in relevant area and 5+ years of relevant successful experience in Admissions, including development and implementation of policy, budget development, and strategic planning
Demonstrated ability in strategic thinking to develop and implement long-term strategic plans, with ability to advocate plan and necessary resources for execution
Demonstrated success in recruiting students and ability to work with faculty in recruiting students
Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized and financial data systems to develop and monitor metrics used to measure success
Knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs and the role that financial aid plays in increasing student recruitment and retention
Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate with excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and presentation skills, which transcend diverse audiences, including students, parents, faculty, and staff while maintaining appropriate confidentiality
Can clearly provide the President and peers the details of strategic and operational activities such that their impacts are understood and carried out
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation, and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution with a strong commitment to continued professional development and diversity
Demonstrated ability to handle conflict constructively and cooperatively at all times
Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University
Master’s or Doctoral degree in an appropriate discipline
Seven to ten years of progressively responsible admissions, financial aid, and marketing related experience
Demonstrated record of strong managerial and collegial leadership
Admissions, financial aid, and marketing experience including development and implementation of admission’s policy, budget development, and strategic planning.
Knowledge of marketing concepts and strategic enrollment planning in a university environment
