Position Summary

In this position, you will oversee the school’s operations, in consultation with the Dean, through partnering with school’s senior leadership in addressing the full range of goals, issues and functions within the school.

Partners with these individuals to review school’s strategy, strategic plan, and key management decisions covering a broad range of topics including rankings, development, facilities, communications, advisory councils, and community relationships.
  • As a key member of the Dean’s leadership team this individual must scan the environment on a regular basis to be attuned to potential challenges, issues and opportunities that may require the attention/involvement of the Dean. He/she will represent the Dean, as needed, at key university and community meetings and absorb special projects and initiatives, as identified and delegated by the dean.
  • Serves as a liaison between faculty, staff, and the Dean on various issues and initiatives.
  • As necessary interface between the school and university central administration.
  • Work closely with the Associate Dean for Resource Management on policies, procedures, and general oversight for school’s annual budget planning process. This includes decision-making and approval as needed with portions of the budget process.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to staff members reporting to this position and their respective areas of responsibility:
      • Director of Student Services
      • Senior Assistant Dean for Enrollment and Online Programs
      • Director for Communications & Marketing.


  • Plan and organize informational/training meetings for the school’s staff workforce on a regular basis (typically 2 – 3 times per year).
  • Decision-making role with all staff hiring decisions (typically in the final stages of the process, once finalists have been identified).
  • Serve on relevant UB-wide committees as needed.
  • Assume a role in the collaborative efforts with the School of Management and the College of Arts & Sciences regarding the Social Impact Fellows program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree 3 years experience managing/supervising teams plus 2 years experience in higher education setting ,
  • strong skills in: management, collaboration, strategic thinking, and written and verbal communication

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with executive-level leadership teams and management of complex projects.
