Job Description

As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks an Associate Director of Financial Aid to promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity. This position will promote Marian University’s Catholic mission and identity by reviewing student applications for financial aid, such as loans, grants-in-aid, or scholarships, to determine eligibility for assistance. The Associate Director will be responsible for awarding and packaging financial aid for all upper class students in addition to all new transfer students.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting unity in diversity, and integrating the Catholic Franciscan intellectual traditions in courses, programs, and services.
  • Confers with individuals and groups to disseminate information and answer questions relating to financial assistance available to students enrolled at Marian University.
  • Reviews students to obtain information needed to determine eligibility for various financial assistance.
  • Reviews data on the Federal Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR), verification documents, and other applicable forms required to process an application for student assistance.
  • Determines amount of financial aid to be awarded, considering such factors as grant eligibility levels (Federal, State, and Marian University), student loan eligibility levels, other scholarships, and college work study programs.
  • Authorizes release of funds in Colleague to students and prepares records directing the preparation of the financial aid award letters.
  • Reconciles returning, freshman, and transfer student Pell awards and state awards in Scholar Track.
  • Responsible for coordinating with the Director on the selection and awarding of Endowed and Annual Scholarships.
  • Assists the Director in the maintenance of Colleague.
  • Represents the financial aid department in serving on various college committees, as assigned by the Director.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned by the Director.
  • Helps with presentations on campus and off as needed or assigned by the Director.
  • Indirectly supervises the Administrative Assistant and college work-study students.
  • Responsible for creating, running and updated reports that 1) verify the accuracy of the data in Ellucian Colleague and 2) enforce the timeliness and completion of required financial aid tasks.
  • Is a resource for colleagues on guidelines and regulations for state and federal awards and packaging.

Required Qualifications

Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; with a Masters degree in Student Personnel Administration or related area preferred.
    • At least five to seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in administering financial aid, preferably in a similar size institution.
    • Working knowledge of federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures for financial aid, and the ability to interpret state and federal financial aid regulations; extensive experience with aid packaging; and experience with Ellucian Colleague preferred.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to the college and community.
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
    • Must be computer proficient and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
