Job Description
As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks an Assistant Director of Financial Aid for Online and Second Degree Programs to promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by providing support in functional areas of Financial Aid for Online and Second Degree Students. This position is focused on providing superior customer service and answering a variety of student inquiries related to the financial aid process. This position relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
The Assistant Director handles all aspects of interviewing students who apply for financial aid through either the Online or Second Degree programs. This pertains to the entire financial aid award process for this group, to include document collection, aid packaging, counseling, reconciliation, submission of grant for school payment, and loan processing. In addition, the Counselor will assist in the handling of the Federal Direct and private loan program processing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
- Confers with Online and Second Degree students to disseminate information and answer questions relating to financial assistance available to students enrolled at or applying to Marian University.
- Provides financial aid counseling for these students, to determine federal grants, Indiana state grants, any Marian University aid, and eligibility for federal/private loans.
- Oversees the processing of paperwork necessary for the awarding of all eligible financial aid programs for these students. This includes but is not limited to document collection, tracking of enrollment changes, and other tasks unique to student award processing in these programs.
- Provides support to the Associate Director of Financial Aid in the reconciliation and payment processing of federal and state grant programs.
- Provides support to the Assistant Director of student loans and counseling in regards to federal and private loan processing.
- Serve as financial aid back-up for medical school and graduate programs.
- Other projects as assigned by the Associate Director.
- Responsible for adherence to all financial aid policies set forth and supervised by the Director of Financial Aid.
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred. 1-3 years’ of financial aid experience in higher education environment preferred.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to effectively present information to the college and community.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Must be computer proficient and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
