Position Summary
This position is accountable for the progressive planning, management, and administration of the Graduate Programs Office including but not limited to recruitment, admission, and student services for graduate programs offered through the College of Business and the College of Arts and Science. This position has a dual reporting structure to the Associate Dean of Business and the Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences. Reporting to this position are two Assistant Directors of Graduate Admission from the College of Business, their counterpart(s) in the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Graduate Programs Office Manager.

Principal Accountabilities
The Director coordinates strategic planning to further develop Graduate Programs which meet the needs of graduate students and government, not-for-profit, and corporate entities. S/he develops promotional campaigns focusing on new market segments for graduate programs (including collateral materials, multi-media advertising, and information session development) to meet enrollment goals. S/he is also responsible for the implementation of new master’s programs, assisting in the development of curriculum and schedules with limited resources, as well as effectively recruiting and advising students while meeting enrollment goals.

The incumbent is responsible for designing and implementing effective assessment tools for program analysis and continuous improvement in line with the University’s strategic mission and contractual requirements. Based on feedback of assessment tools, s/he may recommend modifications and changes involving academic structure and policy of the University with respect to the graduate programs.

In addition to strategic planning, the Director is also responsible for the day-to day operations of the Graduate Programs Office, and will be called on, as appropriate, to participate in the evaluation of applications for admission to Graduate Programs; oversee academic counseling, admission standards, orientation, curriculum and graduation policies; and issue final decisions with regards to relevant course waivers. S/he is also responsible to supervise effectively the Graduate Programs staff and ensure that current and future programs are student focused, faculty supportive and consistent with the goals of the University and accrediting bodies.

The Director’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Works with the Associate Deans to coordinate strategic planning relative to Graduate School Programs, evaluate existing curricula, and recommend modifications which result in a wider range of degree programs which meet the needs of students, business, industry, government, non-profits, and institutions of higher learning.

2. Researches and identifies internal and external sources of potential students (target markets). Develops and executes tailored promotional plans appropriate to each segment, which includes creating and maintaining a presence on relevant social media.

3. Works with departments, such as student organizations, Office of Campus Engagement, Center for Student Success, Alumni Affairs, Advising, Academic Affairs, Hassenfeld Institute, EDC, University Relations, Admissions and others to establish and increase awareness of graduate programs on campus, among alumni, among organizations with ties to the University.

4. Develops and mains database and communication systems to track and maintain contact with inquirers all the way through to the admission process.

5. Based on market input, evaluates the effectiveness of promotional tools such as printed materials, advertising, websites, etc., and makes recommendations for changes/improvements whenever indicated.

6. Conducts or participates in primary and/or secondary research to provide information about potential markets, products, and competition, as well as supports program design and opportunities for inter-program collaboration.

7. Supports the Associate Deans in the development of the strategic enrollment management (SEM) process. Supervises the Assistant Directors in the implementation of the SEM process for all graduate programs.

8. When appropriate, effectively counsels prospective and continuing graduate students, providing sound advice on admission and degree requirements, with an emphasis on retention and program completion.

9. As appropriate, evaluates Graduate Program applications and make admissions recommendations. Interprets standardized test scores, domestic and international university transcripts, and other admissions materials. Manages the student visa process for international students. Collects admitted student deposits and enrollment materials. Supervises short and long-term schedule development and supervises the registration process.

10. Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of the graduate curriculum; and maintains up-to-date knowledge of all curriculum changes in order to effectively advise students on course offerings. Enforces current Graduate Program policies, make recommendations for policy improvement and maintain the Graduate Program Catalog.

11. Reports prospect, admissions, and retention information to appropriate internal and external constituents including surveys related to profiles and ranking on a periodic basis.

12. Participates in and support all efforts related to accreditation by AACSB, NECHE and other accrediting bodies.

13. Effectively recruits, hires, evaluates and motivates employees and students, ensuring that hiring and supervisory practices are in compliance with the spirit and intent of EEO/AA and other policies contained in the College’s employee and policy manuals.

14. Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
This position is best filled by an individual with an advanced degree and 5 or more years of progressively increasing and broad-base experience in higher education academic administration. S/he must be a self-starter and have the ability to develop a strong sense of both current and emerging markets for graduate programs as well as excellent communication skills to actively engage and support across varied constituent groups including but not limited to prospective and enrolled students; corporate, not-for-profit, and governmental entities; faculty; staff; and the external community. Experience should demonstrate excellent management skills, strong computer skills, and familiarity with accreditation standards and processes (experience with NECHE and/or AACSB standards preferred).
