The Communication Manager in the central Office of University Communications provides strategic expertise to departments and schools throughout the University of Pittsburgh.
Primary responsibilities focus on finding compelling and newsworthy stories throughout campus and then pursuing creative ways to disseminate Pitt’s most impactful news to key audiences, locally, nationally and internationally.
Communication managers write stories for the university’s online news service, proactively pitch story ideas to members of the media, arrange interviews with faculty and help manage media needs during events or emergencies. They also serve as liaisons to university partners as they access an array of communication services provided by the office, including marketing, website services, social media, internal and external communications and event promotion. In facilitating these relationships, communication managers seek to understand the goals and opportunities that lie within various areas of campus and provide strategic communications solutions that create the greatest impact within an evolving, multimedia news landscape.
