Associate Vice Chancellor & Director of Equity and Diversity
The Associate Vice Chancellor & Director of Equity and Diversity is a member of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Engagement (VCDE) leadership team and reports directly to the Vice Chancellor. The Associate Vice Chancellor & Director helps create and maintain an atmosphere within the University community that seeks and supports diversity and inclusion in all aspects of University life. The Associate Vice Chancellor & Director directs and manages the Office of Equity and Diversity (OED), which fulfills the compliance function required of all educational entities with regard to various legal mandates set out by state and federal law and regulation as they relate to faculty, staff, and students. Key functions of the office include working closely with the hiring process for all University departments, handling internal campus complaints of discrimination, serving as the UT, Knoxville Title VI and ADA coordinators, and assists with the development of the Affirmative Action Plan. As a participant in policy discussions regarding equity and diversity, employee relations, and student conduct, the Associate Vice Chancellor & Director works closely with faculty, staff, students, and other administrators (includes Cabinet level administration), academic deans, Office of the General Counsel, and various faculty and staff advisory committees. In addition, the Associate Vice Chancellor & Director keeps abreast of all changes and modifications to the legally mandated state and federal programs and serves as a liaison for UT, Knoxville with various enforcement agencies.
