Overview

Located five miles from downtown Boston, Tufts University is a Division III member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the highly-competitive New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Tufts students participate in 30 varsity sports, more than 20 club sports, and a variety of intramural sports. Since 2010, Tufts Athletics has won 11 NCAA team championships and 42 NESCAC team championships. After earning 8 consecutive top-10 national finishes in the Learfield Directors’ Cup competition, Tufts Athletics won Directors’ Cup in 2021-22. Tufts Athletics oversees the Physical Education Department and manages all athletics facilities, including the Steve Tisch Sports & Fitness Center that opened in 2012. The Department of Athletics provides student-athletes a dynamic, transformational experience on and off the field. What You'll Do

The head coach for women’s fencing is responsible for effectively operating all aspects of an NCAA Division III women’s fencing program. This includes, but is not limited to, recruiting successful high school athletes, leading and managing the student-athletes and assistant coaches, organizing and running practices, maintaining a cultural atmosphere for student-athletes which supports the Tufts mission, building a competitive schedule, operating the program within budgetary limits, managing administrative tasks effectively, and actively engaging in program and department fund-raising activities.


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

• Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively coach the sport of fencing, develop and relate to student-athletes in an extremely competitive academic environment
• Knowledge of NCAA and NESCAC rules and a commitment to abide by them at all times
• Ability to actively recruit academically qualified and athletically talented student-athletes to Tufts
• Dedication to the full academic, athletic and social development of student-athletes
• Thorough knowledge of the sport and a sophisticated understanding of coaching strategies with a demonstrated ability to enhance student-athlete development
• Ability to communicate effectively and foster positive relations with fellow athletics department staff members, student-athletes and other members of the Tufts community, including faculty, staff, donors, alumni, and local community members
• Commitment to gender equity, rules compliance, diversity and inclusion and the mission of Tufts University
• Valid US driver’s license and ability to travel are required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree
• Competitive collegiate playing experience
• Fund-raising experience


Pay Range

Minimum $57,900.00, Midpoint $72,450.00, Maximum $87,000.00

Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
