University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) strengthens Berkeley's excellence through engagement with alumni, parents, undergraduate and graduate students, and friends of the University, raising public awareness about Berkeley and increasing private philanthropy. UDAR provides overall direction for the campus' philanthropic advancement strategies and works to strengthen unit development in partnership with campus fundraisers. The Division handles a range of central activities and services encompassing communications, stewardship, prospect development, gift management, and more.
Advancement Information Services (AIS) is the unit with UDAR charged with meeting the data needs of the organization in its external relations and fundraising goals. This position will serve on the Directors team in AIS, and is primarily charged with utilizing both technical skill and strategic thinking to augment and improve the core quality and availability of data within Cal's primary fundraising system, CADS. Improving processes, deploying improved technology, fully automating imports and exports, and otherwise improving data exchanges whenever possible will be a key component of success. We are seeking to take the Data Management team to the point where the vast majority of their work involves fully streamlined and improved processes running seamlessly, so that their attention can be focused on donors and data of greatest importance.
- Manages, through subordinate supervisors, the coordination activities including current business practices, processes and procedures that are diverse in scope.
- Follows processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- Acts as an advisor to subordinates to meet schedules and resolve technical problems.
- Supervises the work of a department with responsibility for quality and quantity of work.
- Participates in the selection, development, and evaluation staff.
- Manages relationships and integrations with software and hardware vendors.
- Uses technical skills to perform complex analysis of data and business needs, document requirements and develop specifications.
- Identifies future database opportunities and architectures.
- Develop, implement and execute queries and scripts to match and integrate data across systems.
- Frequently interacts with peer managers across the organization.
- Recommends changes to policies and operating procedures to improve efficiencies.
- Requires advanced knowledge of database management systems and related areas of IT.
- Requires advanced technical skills related to database management systems function, including experience developing and utilizing data integration platform architecture, query languages, import scripts and reporting techniques.
- Requires high level understanding of the advancement reporting and data management requirements of the campus to ensure appropriate data integrity and availability
- Requires in-depth knowledge of legal framework and Berkeley policies and procedures related to data security and privacy for public databases.
- Strong working relationships with UCOP/Office of General Counsel, UC Berkeley Office of Legal Affairs and other campus data proprietors to quickly navigate, resolve and advise on issues of data access, use, privacy and protection.

- Experience codifying business requirements into workable and optimal technical requirements to be implemented within the unit, or in partnership with peer technical resources.
- Experience translating business requirements into database queries and updates.
- Working knowledge of either integration platforms, such as Mulesoft, Specturm, or Informatica; or, similar experience with data imports and exports through a combination of query languages and other programming.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Working knowledge of Ellucian's Advance Web Access preferred.
- Working knowledge of SQL and Oracle preferred.
Salary & Benefits
This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience.
