As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks applicants for a President’s Office Writer.
The President’s Office Writer is responsible for writing and managing all correspondence, proposals, speeches and other written material for the Office of the President. This position also provides administrative support to the President in collaboration with the Executive Assistant to the President; and provides administrative support to the Senior Vice President for Strategic Partnerships and General Counsel. This position is 100% in-person on campus.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
  • Prepare (write and/or edit copy for) various forms of correspondence (daily email correspondence, congratulatory letters, letters of recommendation, nominations for awards, acknowledgement letters, follow-up letters) for university president and manage the correspondence process.
  • Prepare donor proposals, speech outlines, PowerPoint presentations, email communications, etc. for the President in conjunction with Institutional Advancement and Marketing Communications as requested.
  • Provide general administrative support for the Senior Vice President for Strategic Partnerships and General Counsel, including but not limited to project support, scheduling meetings and arranging hospitality, general clerical duties, payment requisitions, credit card reconciliation, photocopying, transcribing, filing, mailings, etc.
  • Assist with preparation for Board of Trustee meetings, Board committee meetings, advisory board meetings, Board of Visitors meetings, including but not limited to preparation of materials (such as agendas, minutes, project summaries), securing space and making arrangements for hospitality, IT, etc., and taking notes or minutes, as requested.
  • Complete special projects as assigned; attend and assist with university events as requested (Marian University Gala, Football VIP ticket process, graduation, groundbreakings, etc.).
  • Answer telephones in the Office of the President and handle callers’ needs in an appropriate manner, greet visitors to the Office of the President, and provide additional administrative support as needed.

  • Exceptional writing skills in a variety of formats and superior typing and proofreading ability
  • High level computer skills – Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • Ability to write from dictation or from hand-written documents
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and direction and to anticipate needs.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent research and information-gathering skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as policy and procedures manuals, reports and minutes of meetings.
  • Ability to effectively interact with members of the university and business community.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Essential Functions:

Work hours necessary to perform job requirements satisfactorily on a regular basis. Manage absence from work in responsible manner to ensure service to clients, work teams, and coworkers. Comply with Marian University policies and practices and seeking clarification of them when necessary.
