Position Summary:

Student Affairs. The Vice President for Student Affairs serves as senior student affairs officer of the University and lead advocate for the student population; articulates vision for student life consistent with the University mission and strategic initiatives; serves as senior cabinet official; provides strategic leadership in all Georgia Southern University initiatives related to Student Affairs; ensures divisional objectives align with University's mission and goals; implements a strategic plan for student services on University's three campuses.

Essential Functions

  • Performs related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University.
  • Provides leadership for Division of Student Affairs in functional areas including staff development, budget management, resource allocation, strategic planning, assessment, policy-making, and crisis response.
  • Stays abreast of trends and advises President and other Cabinet members on student affairs issues.
  • Creates environment and manages services that foster intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual, and social development of students through out-of-class programs and activities.
  • Administers Student Union, Recreation, and Housing to provide programming to support student engagement.
  • Participates in formulation of student policy and regulation.
  • Advises President on policy and program issues.
  • Represents the University in the community on matters pertaining to student engagement.
  • Determines fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations.
  • Monitors, verifies, and reconciles expenditures budgeted funds.
  • Prepares reports and analyses on student programs and activities setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions to attain student success.
  • Hires, manages, develops, evaluates and retains direct reports.
  • Participates in committees, including the Student Activity Budget Committee and others.
  • Serves as the appeal official for student conduct and Title IX in the Division.
  • Advises the President on all issues related to student life.

Minimum Education Required:

Doctorate in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or related field.

Minimum Experience Required:

Nine or more years of progressive responsibility in Student Affairs or closely-related administrative position.

Could a level of education higher than the minimum required for the position substitute for the minimum level of job-related experience?: No

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Effective communication (verbal and written), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment; proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; legally authorized to work in the United States; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment.
