Outreach and Admissions:
- Represent Berkeley Law, specifically the Admissions and Financial Aid Office, at events in the continental U.S. as assigned by the Dean or Director.
- Plans visits to schools, schedules and makes presentations, may conduct interviews and follow-up visits. Includes group visits (K-12, student groups, college groups, non-profits, other).
- Develops and leads the law school's high school outreach program in coordination with the pipeline coordinator, building relationships with Law Academies, publicizing visits, planning, executing and attending events, etc.
- Other Outreach as assigned, such as applicant information sessions, online/video presentations, campus tours, evening events (etc.).
- Identifies potential student applicants, and provides information about higher education generally and Berkeley Law specifically.
- Provides in-depth information on admissions requirements, prerequisite courses, school/college programs and curricula, specific financial aid criteria, and career opportunities.
- Assesses academic preparedness of traditional, special-program, and international applicants.
- Assesses applicants for motivation, initiative, leadership potential, work/life experience, extracurricular activities, socioeconomic status, disability, and educational/personal hardship.
- Screens applicants for Berkeley Law.
- Uses professional judgment when reviewing complex applications for admission.
- Makes appropriate use of Berkeley Law Faculty Admissions Policy and all relevant policies, guidelines, and law to make recommendations on admission.
- Serves as first reader on approximately 1,500 files from first-year (1L) applicants over a six-month period, usually between October and March, of each year.
- Evaluates transcripts and international records for eligibility.
- Researches foreign educational systems as needed and analyzes academic records from foreign secondary and tertiary institutions (including study abroad records).
- Performs course-by-course evaluations for transfer credits as requested.
- Using extensive knowledge of Berkeley Law requirements and expectations assesses the applicants' overall record and experience for final admissions determination and recommendation.
- Serves as liaison between students, parents, colleges/universities, community agencies, and Berkeley Law.
- Assists with admissions and admit email correspondence.
- Plans, manages and implements events to enhance recruitment and yield, diversity initiative events, mentoring programs, electronic communications, and similar activities.
- Plans and manages Admitted Student Weekend, the Visiting Admits (Ambassadors) Program, and e-Ambassadors. This work includes soliciting volunteers, managing portal and system updates with IST, managing all logistics (such as food ordering, room reservations, etc.), and tracking and collecting data to report on the efficacy of the program and to suggest improvements.
- Manages the Travel Stipend Program for admitted students, including the request, receiving, processing, issuing, tracking, reporting, and controls.
- Also handles policy development, direct-booking for financial hardship and reviewing appeals/granting exceptions.
- Counsels entering students and manages online appointment system (includes schedule and calendar management).
- Understand and accurately communicate the financial aid and scholarship programs offered by the law school, to both prospective and admitted students.
- Manage BLOS (serve on finalist selection committee, packet and folder updates including bios, tracking and reporting, manage travel/logistics for interviewees and alumni interviewers in coordination with ESU, coordinate with Alumni/Development Office).

Data Processing Collection/Analysis/Reporting:
- Data Processing Collection/Analysis/Reporting on programs described above or as needed.
- Processing and assigning application files, and rendering decisions as directed.
- Regular Reporting (Weekly Snapshot of visiting admits, appointments, budget and expenditures for travel stipend program, etc.) as directed.
- Interface with campus systems to establish, streamline, and implement processes such as issuance of CalNetID, SIDs, Cal1 Cards, getting data into Slate, etc.
- Work with IT, Registrar, etc. to assign entering students to modules.
- Produces special and annual reports, and program evaluations.
- Assesses effectiveness in attracting quality students to UC Berkeley.
Hiring, scheduling, training, and supervision of student assistants to meet the needs of the office.
- Thorough knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population.
- Ability to interpret policies and procedures to prospective students and the public.
- Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of academic programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs, at colleges/universities and specifically at UC Berkeley, and/or specific colleges and schools.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations, and other institutions.
- Ability to develop recruitment programs, and design effective materials.
- Must be able to travel, at times extensively.
- Some night and weekend work may be required.
- Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training (e.g., Counseling, Higher Ed Administration, Education, etc.)
- A minimum of three years of experience in law school admissions in a fast-paced, high-volume J.D. admissions office, or a J.D. degree is preferred.
- Proficiency with ACES2 and other student information systems is preferred.
- Experience working in admissions at a large, public university is preferred.
Salary & Benefits
This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $64,000.00 - $70,000.00.
