Job Description:
The School of Music and the School of Dance, Theatre and Arts Administration are searching for a passionate, energetic and visionary leader. The Director will balance his/her efforts between the two multi-disciplinary and diverse schools. Duties include increasing enrollment, recruiting and evaluating faculty, scheduling courses and performance activities, initiating academic programs, budgeting and working closely with the Dean to align the Schools with the goals of the College and the University. The Director will also supervise the manager of the University’s Dance Institute, a pre-professional dance program and work closely with the leadership of the newly established National Center for Choreography at The University of Akron to facilitate educational and collaborative opportunities for students. The Director will work collaboratively with the faculty to develop and implement a vision for each School within the larger academic and artistic communities.

Required Qualifications:
Terminal degree in a performing arts field (Ph.D., D.M.A., or M.F.A. from an accredited university); outstanding record of teaching, scholarship or creative activity commensurate with the rank of full professor / associate with tenure at The University of Akron; ability to teach courses in either the School of Music or the School of Dance, Theatre and Arts Administration; experience and demonstrated success in higher education administration; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Professional experience in a performing arts field; commitment to shared governance and transparency; demonstrated success in building professional relationships and community engagement; experience with marketing, fundraising and recruitment; ability to foster interdisciplinary activities and creative/scholarly endeavors.

School of Music:
The UA School of Music is part of the Fine Arts Division of Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences and has a long history of excellence in performance and teaching. The School offers a comprehensive music program to approximately 250 majors at the bachelors and masters level and is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration:
The School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration is part of the Fine Arts Division of Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences and has a long history of excellence in performing, professional practice and teaching. The School offers undergraduate programs in Theatre and Dance and a graduate program in Arts Administration.
