Under the general supervision of the Director of Graduate Programs, the Graduate Academic Advisor will advise students in the development of meaningful educational plans; promote students' intellectual and personal development; discuss and clarify educational goals; help students to acquire relevant information and university services; interpret institutional, general education, and program requirements; evaluate and monitor student academic progress, course choice, and class schedule in the context of student life and career goals. The Graduate Academic Advisor will engage in the evaluation of student learning progress, career goals, and academic stressors; partner with the School of Business Career Center regarding how course selection interacts with internship and employment plans; analyze student information system data to better understand the academic challenges faced by particular student populations; assists faculty on determining course scheduling needs; evaluate petitions for exceptions. The incumbent will perform advising duties that are based on theories and knowledge of teaching, learning, and human development, and reflect developmental advising approaches.
Academic Advising: Provides advice and assistance to students on academic and degree progress and major requirements; assists students in determining a major, alternative academic options, resolve scheduling conflicts, and similar issues.
Advises faculty on departmental/school/college and university policies and procedures; reviews students' progress and advises students and faculty on requirements for degree/program completion; identifies students with progression problems and recommends interventions; devises curriculum planning in collaboration with chair/dean and faculty, and with other departments. Provides advice and assistance to students on all aspects of their academic experience, including progression and requirement matters for the department/school/college. Determines barriers, distractions, and complications affecting a student's academic success, helps students recognize these key non-academic issues, and makes appropriate referrals for additional therapeutic counseling and/or assistance from other units. Applying professional Student Services concepts, provides the full range of student services to student population served by the organization.
Student Orientation: Conducts orientations of new students.
Plan and organize AGSM Student Orientation and summer programing to ensure the handoff between Admissions Office and the Advising Office.
Plans, designs, and provides workshops for students, such as information about the organization, or academic strategies and enrichment programs.
Applies professional student services concepts in providing a variety of student services to the student population served by the organization, and to faculty and management within that organization.
Financial Aid: Participates in the processing, evaluation, and awarding of student fellowships, grants, and other awards; advises students on financial aid options.
Advises students on financial aid options of the organization and extra-mural fellowship opportunities; oversees processes for equitable assignment of Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs) and coordinates GSI assignments each term.
Student Conduct: Provides information to students and faculty regarding organization policies and procedures on student conduct.
Provides information to students and faculty regarding student grievances, and disputes (academic and non-academic). Evaluates and advises students in petitions for exceptions to departmental/school/college and/or Graduate Division requirements.
Confirms that students have met requirements for degree completion when there are no clear precedents or articulations, such as interdisciplinary programs or when transfer work is involved.

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.Required

Knowledge of UC systems like GradESS, GradSIS, Banner, Salesforce, etc.
