The Assistant Director reports directly to the Dean of Students and is responsible for the administration of student’s rights and responsibilities (student conduct), dealing with student crisis and complaints when it involves students or student organization behavior. This position will work collaboratively with a wide variety of administrative and faculty departments across the university and community to promote civility and good citizenship. In addition, this position will have responsibilities to assist with education and prevention efforts, Clery reporting, and referral process and conduct reports, as needed.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
- Handles individual student problems, complaints, grievances and rights adjustment situations and provides
policy interpretation, as assigned.
- Administers the disciplinary system as state in the Code of Student Conduct. Conducts disciplinary investigations, follows established procedures insuring due process, fairness, legally correct and educative procedures in administering University and office policies.
- Ensures that proper documentation of action and records are maintained, and keeps other involved offices informed of status.
- Enforces all regulations, approved and stated, in university documents wherein they pertain to students and administers the disciplinary system as stated in the Code of Student Conduct.
- Advises and counsels students relative to personal, social, financial, academic, and organizational concerns.
- Advises individuals, committees, and other student organizations regarding university policies and procedures.
- Assists in the implementation of proactive discipline programming.
- Observes safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed and work supervised.
- Assign sanctions for Title IX and Sexual Misconduct violations under the Code of Student Conduct.
- Assists in programming for UNT Community regarding education and prevention efforts such as hazing, alcohol, drugs, sexual misconduct, etc.
- Select, train and supervise the Graduate Assistant or Peer Advocate.
- Assist the Graduate Assistant with the organization of the Code of Conduct Committee and their training or Peer Advocate with student conduct process and education.
