Position Summary
The Supervisor of Counseling and Academic Advisement will be the lead in the Counseling and Advisement Unit and supervise the Counseling staff. The incumbent will provide oversight of the Unit and integrate the BEOC mission into the work plan of the Counseling Unit.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Assist in the development and implementation of student-oriented programs and events specifically designed to promote student retention, academic achievement, and completion.
- Become a member of the BEOC Leadership team.
- Co-lead the Strengthening Families Celebration Committee and facilitate the Student International Day Celebration.
- Maintain communication and coordinate efforts with the various Units within the BEOC as it pertains to students’ needs.
- Develop, train, and participate with staff or students in presenting workshops to promote interpersonal and academic skills.
- Provide support to students seeking assistance with educational, vocational, or personal concerns and link students to outside agencies (e.g., departments/programs on the University campus, community based organizations, the Department of Social Services and/or the Court system) for resources, as well as create relationships with those agencies for outreach referrals.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in College Student Personnel Administration, Counseling, Social Work or related field.
- At least one (1) year of experience
• Supervising staff. • Working with academically underprepared and/or economically disadvantaged adults. • In a role providing either clinical/counseling, case management, academic advisement, student support services, or career services.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent telephone, email or in-person contact with students on a daily basis.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge and utilization of computer office productivity programs, particularly Microsoft Office software.
Preferred Qualifications
At least two (2) years of experience:
- Supervising staff.
- Working with academically underprepared and/or economically disadvantaged adults.
- In a role providing either clinical/counseling, case management, academic advisement, student support services, or career services.
Work Hours:
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
