Tufts University (Tufts), one of the leading student-centered research universities in the nation seeks an accomplished individual to serve as its next University Controller (UC).


Reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Treasurer, the University Controller in an integral member of Tuft’s financial leadership team, and will be responsible for providing university-wide leadership and broad strategic oversight of financial accounting and compliance, including post-award research administration to assist the university’s academic leadership, administrative management and board members in the efficient and effective monitoring, management and control of the financial resources of Tufts University.

What You'll Do

The University Controller oversees a broad portfolio managed by eleven direct reports with oversight of the functions of general accounting, bursar, endowment and investment accounting, financial systems reporting, taxation, risk management, post-award research administration, shared support services (payroll, disbursements and travel), and global travel operations for Tufts University. 


The new University Controller will lead a strong, professional team dedicated to ensuring best practices to support the education, research and community service missions of the university, while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The successful candidate will lead an office committed to continued process improvement providing outstanding professional service in an increasingly complex and demanding regulatory environment. The UC will continue to strengthen collaborations and relationships across the university to better serve the mission and communicate financial policies and procedures in a customer-centric environment. The next UC will be a forward-thinking leader and colleague who leverages professional network knowledge to anticipate regulatory challenges and how best to meet them. The UC will be an essential advisor to the Vice President for Finance and Treasurer, and other senior leaders.

What We're Looking For

The next UC will possess the experiences and abilities to lead a large and complex office. A Bachelor’s degree and a CPA certification are required. An MBA or a Master's degree in accountancy is preferred. Ten years of experience in a related role is required.
