Primary Function
The Associate Dean for Research and Administration is responsible for oversight and coordination of programs and activities that support research and operations for the College. This individual assists the Dean with administrative responsibilities centered around research, personnel, interprofessional education, finance, and facilities for the College. The position supports College of Health and Human Sciences faculty through face to face mentoring and programing.
Duties and Responsibilities (generally)
Research/Scholarship Promotion
Plan & Implement research/scholarship priorities for the College
Develop and support mechanisms that promote research/scholarship of faculty and graduate/undergraduate students
Promote, develop opportunities for and support interdisciplinary research/scholarship and/or clusters
Oversee College support of research/scholarship/sabbatical for faculty
Connect faculty with funding agencies and collaborators and promote individual and interdisciplinary research
Design, implement and evaluate a faculty mentoring program for funded research, scholarship, intellectual property, and commercialization activities
Coordinate and monitor fulfillment of new faculty start up agreements
Serve on Research and Innovation Partnerships (RIPS) Advisory Council
Research/Scholarship Administration
Support grant recipients from pre-through post-grant award
Develop and maintain database of faculty research capabilities, interests, and activities
Monitor sponsored funding progress of CHHS
Monitor research compliance
Develop and provide oversight for College core research facilities (recharge centers)
Develop, maintain, and assure compliance with applicable policies and laws as they related to the operation in the HS SRL and other college core facilities
Graduate Programs
Provide oversight of the college-wide Health Sciences PhD
Facilitate participation of research active faculty in graduate programs
Support interaction with CHHS and across NIU to sustain and grow graduate programs and transdisciplinary collaboration
Attend Graduate Council meetings (as applicable)
Policy and Administration
Assist with budget planning and management relative to research program, grants, and other areas as assigned
Review/Evaluate grant proposals and write letters of support on behalf of the college
Coordinate facility allocation and development of new facilities for the College
Prepare and coordinate relevant reports for the Office of the Provost, President, Board of Trustees, IBHE, etc.
Coordinate CHHS Committee on Grants and Awards
Serve on College and University Committees as related to job roles and responsibilities
Provide leadership on the college’s technology policies
Represent the college on collective bargaining committees (as appropriate)
Personnel
Facilitate hiring of faculty and staff and manage personnel actions
Supervise Director of the CHHS Survey Research Laboratory
Supervise Information Technology Manager
Work with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to support faculty development in scholarship and professional activities
Coordinate college professional development activities related to research
General College Administration
Collaborate with CHHS leadership to foster Interprofessional Education and Research within and beyond the college
Teach 1-2 courses per academic year (as appropriate)
Perform functions of the Dean in absence of the Dean and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
CHHS Committees/Councils: Serve as ex-officio member of College Council and College Senate
Assist the Dean with college and university committee nominations, rotations, and processes
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Required Qualifications for this position
Minimum Required Qualifications
Research intensive doctorate in a field appropriate for CHHS disciplines
History of excellence in research and graduate education
Eligible for tenure
