Summary:

Utah Valley University (UVU) is seeking a Chief of Staff (CoS) for the Office of the President to provide leadership, management and coordination of strategic initiatives, emerging priorities, and a range of other activities central to the smooth operations and success of the university. The CoS provides UVU with nimble executive leadership, liaises with other senior campus officials, and manages external relationships and partnerships. The CoS represents, advises, and provides day-to-day support to the President as needed; oversees the presidential staff; and facilitates communication and coordination of the President's leadership team. Within the framework of functional leadership, the CoS supports and is supported by other senior level leaders and works with all constituencies to realize UVU's mission and values. The CoS reports to the President and receives all assignments and authority as an extension of that office.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have strong integrity, a high level of energy and proven achievement, excellent oral and written communication skills, and exceptional interpersonal relationship and team-building skills. Proven ability to interpret and apply complex information, laws, policy, and procedures. Equally significant qualifications include being highly collegial and consultative, and having a non-hierarchical management style, the ability to develop and sustain collaborative relationships, and demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity and equal opportunity. Must be able to care personally for others, while at the same time able to directly challenge others when needed.
Candidates must have seven years of professional work experience, including full-time administrative experience, with a proven record of managing cross-functional teams, including accountability for strategic planning, change management, consensus building, and organizational leadership.
A masters degree in business administration, public administration, communications, or other related fields is required; a doctorate degree is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The CoS oversees and directs activities of the Presidents Office by planning and directing staff operations as assigned by the President. Counsels, supports and advises the President in the effective performance of her duties, coordinates strategic initiatives across campus divisions, implements the Presidents decisions and directives and manages the Presidents Office staff. Plans and organizes board meetings, UVU leadership meetings, and committee/council meetings; creates agendas; and acts as secretary to the Board of Trustees.
The CoS interfaces with and facilitates communication and follow through with vice presidents and other senior leaders. Expedites Presidential interaction with Cabinet members, employees, students, donors, legislators, community leaders and members, and other constituents. Handles special requests coming into the Office of the President. The CoS helps the entire Cabinet connect dots for greater impact on student retention and completion, as well as the overall smooth operation of UVU. The CoS supports the President in internal and external engagements that involve strategic relationship-building and critical opportunities, while being the Presidents extra eyes and ears on internal and external developments that could have material impact on UVUs success.

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctorate degree is preferred.

Work is performed in a typical office environment.
