Overview
The Assistant Director for Transfer, Evaluations, and Articulations is a leader in the Office of Registration and Records who provides oversight for transfer credit evaluations, articulation agreements, graduation audits, and final verification of graduation requirements at Northern Illinois University.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director is the subject matter expert on university, state, and federal initiatives related to transfer credit and articulation agreements, provides training and education for Registration and Records staff and other campus departments, and promotes a student-centered and equity-minded approach to student credit transfer and degree completion. This position leverages current and emerging technologies to increase the efficiency and student-friendliness of transfer, evaluation, and articulation procedures and stays current with changes in policy and procedures that affect admission, transfer, and graduation processes. The Assistant Director is responsible for interviewing, training, developing, and evaluating four Admission/Records Representatives and one Admission/Records Coordinator. This position acts as the transfer coordinator of the university, and reports to the Department Director/University Registrar.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Directs and coordinates the activities of Transfer, Evaluations, and Articulations staff.
- Interviews, trains, develops, and evaluates Transfer, Evaluations, and Articulations to ensure the effective evaluation, analysis and reporting of student undergraduate coursework toward admission to and graduation from the university.
- Directs all activities related to transfer credit articulation, articulation agreements and dual enrollment partnerships, and graduation policies and procedures.
- Oversees the auditing of student degree programs, conferral of degrees, and issuance of diplomas.
- Cultivates effective partnerships with Illinois Community Colleges to ensure the effective execution of articulation agreements and serves as the University leader and point of contact for the Illinois Articulation Initiative.
- The Assistant Director for Transfer, Evaluations, and Articulations will demonstrate a commitment to student success, will objectively assess the outcomes of departmental policies and procedures and their impact on student enrollment, persistence, and graduation, and will be an advocate for inclusive and equitable transfer credit practices.
Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)
- Bachelor’s degree in business, communication, education, humanities, public relations, social sciences, or a field related to the position.
- Two (2) years (24 months) of professional work experience in admissions, records, registration, and/or closely related experience within an educational setting.
(NOTE: A Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) (Civil Service)
- Knowledge of academic, departmental, institutional, and/or government laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures related to student admissions, records, and/or registration functions.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service.
- Knowledge of electronic equipment, computer hardware and software, and their applications.
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Ability to identify measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the requirements of the system.
- Ability to work and exercise judgment independently in order to be able to analyze and investigate a variety of questions or problems.
- Ability to conceptualize, organize, analyze, and interpret data, complex rules, and regulations to resolve difficult situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively for the needs of the audience.
- Ability to interpret work related documents, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to exercise discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.

- Five (5) or more years of experience, preferably in a university Registrar’s Office
- Two (2) or more years of experience in a transfer and evaluations unit
- Experience with the PeopleSoft student information system
- Experience with the OnBase document management system
- Two (2) or more years of leadership/management experience
