Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving in the Office of Advancement and Alumnx Relations ("Advancement"), the Associate Director of Annual Giving ("Associate Director") is a key member of the Annual Giving team, and is responsible for soliciting financial support of The Simmons Fund, increasing unrestricted revenue. In addition, the Associate Director works to increase alumnx participation rates through the strategic development and execution of core fundraising programs, such as affinity-based giving circles and societies and graduated alums of the last decade ("G.O.L.D."). The Associate Director is able to make decisions without supervision and may determine tasks, priorities, and goals which may affect other people or resources. This all requires the Associate Director to be highly accurate and have developed social skills.
On occasion, the Associate Director performs basic administrative activities (related to their own expenses and budgets) and designs and produces promotional content related to solicitation efforts. They communicate with others using a variety of methods, including in-person and electronic.
This is a full-time (40-hours/week) position with occasional night, weekend, and travel requirements; eligible for hybrid in-office/remote work environment, with limitations.
- Work closely with Advancement team members and partners to directly manage and monitor strategic fundraising campaigns by:
- Conducting personal solicitations, training, coordinating, influencing, negotiating with, and supporting alumnx volunteers in their fundraising efforts;
- Serving as the primary point of contact for volunteers and other Advancement team members who are involved in alumnx management strategies (including for special events with fundraising components);
- Interpreting and sharing results of fundraising activities with others, and;
- Collaborating with partners to design and produce promotional content or to prepare reports or presentations to communicate fundraising activities and analysis.
- Conduct research and data analysis of alumnx giving trends, philanthropic capacity, and engagement in order to create comprehensive strategies to dramatically increase revenue and participation across the entire alumnx community;
- Build, cultivate, and steward relationships with key volunteers and groups to sustain and increase Simmons Fund giving and participation;
- Identify and develop the strategy for class volunteer management including fundraising campaigns, working closely with class volunteer leadership to achieve class revenue and participation goals, and will think creatively about opportunities to generate class enthusiasm, giving, and participation;
- Coordinate and develop giving circles/programs by:
- Managing existing giving circles/programs to support various fundraising priorities, such as The Simmons Fund, and;
- Identifying other areas of affinity (1899 Society, athletics, etc.) for recruitment and engagement with the purpose of peer-to-peer fundraising and other special fundraising initiatives.
- Develop and execute strategies and opportunities to educate recent graduates about philanthropy through personal solicitations, various communications, and existing events;
- Solicit recent graduates through specific, targeted messaging and appeals on an annual basis;
- Setup and utilize online/digital platforms to coordinate and monitor crowdfunding solicitation and manage volunteer fundraising activities;
- Maintain documents, records, and other data related to fundraising/affinity group activities.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency with desktop computers and office technology (such as spreadsheets and presentations); advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint);
- Knowledge of or experience with databases (such as The Raiser's Edge/NXT) and/or crowdfunding/volunteer management online platforms (such as EverTrue and Give Campus) a plus;
- Knowledge of solicitation principles and methods for the means of promoting Simmons's fundraising priorities;
- Exceptional planning and organizational skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to coordinate, instruct, negotiate with, persuade, and be in service to others;
- Strong ability to communicate with and understand others, demonstrating active listening and learning;
- Strong ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, team environment;
- Ability to identify problems and develop creative solutions;
- Knowledge of marketing and communications techniques and methods a plus;
- The ideal candidate will be energetic, positive, extremely service-oriented, and able to build strong working relationships.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required;
- Minimum of one to three (1-3) years of experience in development required (higher education preferred).
