Department Summary
The College of Science (COS) at the University of North Texas consists of the departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and the interdisciplinary program Teach North Texas (TNT). COS also serves two of the university’s institutes: BioDiscovery Institute (BDI) and the Advanced Environmental Research Institute (AERI). COS offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD degrees in science and mathematics, currently serving more than 3,800 majors. Our 125 faculty members are world-class instructors and researchers in science and mathematics. COS faculty and staff strive for excellence, working together to meet research and teaching objectives, as well as providing support for all COS students during their academic careers.

COS Research works collaboratively with the Grants & Contracts Administration (GCA) throughout the pre-award and post-award processes. GCA serves as the coordinating department for proposal submissions to external funding entities and administers externally sponsored project awards received by the university.
Position Overview
This position is responsible for:

Assisting College of Science researchers with post-award, uniform guidance, and local spending compliance.
Serving as a liaison between researchers, department staff, and the Office of Grants and Contracts Administration (GCA) regarding sponsored project spending at the post award stage.
Supervising college staff that assists researchers with award spending.
Various types of budgetary activities that requires similar skill sets.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Research administration work experience.
  • Working knowledge of sponsor requirements, systems and forms, as well as Research Services forms and processes, i.e., Budget Builder, Current and Pending, Routing, and Cost Shares.
  • Knowledge of DoD, DOE, NASA, NIST, DARPA, NSF and other funding agencies relevant to the disciplines served.
  • Working knowledge of UNT systems and forms related to budgeting, procurement and payroll and application to both grant and non-grant processes.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree with three to five years of experience working in post award administration.
