Job Description
As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews Marian University is seeking an Assistant Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences to promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by encouraging an innovative, interdisciplinary, and inclusive working environment that is forward-thinking and strives for diversity, equity, and inclusion of people, perspectives, and ideas. In collaboration with the CAS Dean, the Assistant Dean will help create and implement the strategic plan for the CAS in alignment with the University mission and values.
The Assistant Dean for the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is a faculty member with allocated load hours to help perform the essential leadership and administrative duties of the College. The Assistant Dean reports directly to the CAS Dean and has a full-time, 12-month appointment with the expectation of teaching one course per semester.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies
  • Advocates for the College to internal and/or external audiences
  • Serve as primary driver of some CAS-focused initiatives
  • Helps manage College-level research and scholarship activities
  • Responsible, in part, for the College’s (and each department’s within) external visibility, planning, and presence
  • Assist the Dean of the CAS with the work of the College (planning, budgeting, coordinating, supervising and evaluating personnel and programs)
  • In consultation with key assessment stakeholders (Director of Educational Assessment, Director of Institutional Research, Director of Teaching & Learning, Assistant Provost for Accreditation & Administration, etc.) review students learning outcome reports and assessments for the College
  • Approves schedules, faculty load, instructor assignments, and external employment issues within the College
  • Provides final approval for adjunct hiring within the College
  • Helps manage and approve College budget(s)
  • Hosts/Cohosts college/school meetings as needed
  • Helps support and develop recognition and development of faculty especially in relation to their teaching, service, and scholarship
  • Takes leadership role in the mediation of conflicts among constituents in the College, consulting with the CAS dean, office of provost, and the office of human resources as necessary
 
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission and strategic vision of Marian University.
  • An earned doctorate or terminal degree from a liberal art or science from an accredited university
  • Evidence of a collaborative, collegial, and equitable administrative style
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
