The law school has produced leaders in law, government, and society, including Chief Justice of the United States Earl Warren, Secretary of State of the United States Dean Rusk, American civil rights activist Pauli Murray, California Supreme Court Justice Cruz Reynoso, president and founder of the Equal Justice Society Eva Paterson, United States Northern District of California Judge Thelton Henderson, and Attorney General of the United States Edwin Meese.

The Law School's Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) department focuses on securing philanthropic support to meet the school's financial objectives and alumni outreach efforts. The mission of the Development team is to secure philanthropic support to fund current operations and special initiatives that advance the law school's mission.

The Associate Director of Development, Reunion Class Campaigns, works collaboratively with other members of DAR to create and execute the Berkeley Law's class reunion fundraising program. The Associate Director will design and implement one or more fundraising programs involving peer-to-peer solicitation. This position is responsible for creating and executing an annual work plan for the class reunion program based on best-in-practice tactics, and alumni and fundraising data. The incumbent will identify, train and motivate alumni volunteers to successfully complete peer-to-peer solicitations in order to realize both increased annual alumni participation and gift dollars. S/He will develop appropriate training and marketing materials, and organize events designed to educate, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni volunteers and prospective donors. The Associate Director will also personally solicit gifts from volunteers, and current and prospective donors.

Responsibilities

Under limited supervision by the Sr. Assistant Dean Development & Alumni Relations, exercises discretion and professional judgment in designing and implementing the law school's annual reunion class gift fundraising campaigns and associated activities.
  • Designs and implements an annual work plan for reunion giving.
  • Prepares all materials required to successfully implement the program including volunteer training manuals and direct marketing materials.
  • Delivers timely and up-to-date fundraising reports to volunteers to guide them in their solicitation efforts on behalf of the Law School.
  • Serves as primary point of contact for questions and requests from reunion class campaign volunteers. Ensures inquiries are resolved quickly and appropriately.


In collaboration with the Sr. Assistant Dean Development & Alumni Relations, participates in short and long-range strategic planning for reunion fundraising programs.
  • Develops and executes plans for each class in the reunion cycle - 5th, 10th, 15th, etc. through 50th Reunion classes.


Identifies, cultivates, solicits and/or stewards class reunion volunteers and donors to ensure that predetermined fundraising goals are met.
  • Recruits 100+ reunion gift campaign class volunteers.
  • Trains volunteers to ensure that they are prepared to excel in solicitation of their classmates.
  • Provides analysis and information of complex results or activities, and makes recommendations to upper management for program changes or development of new programs as required.


Designs, organizes, and implements special events designed to educate reunion gift committee volunteers, and to motivate volunteers and reunion class alumni to make one-time, recurring, and multi-year unrestricted contributions to support the Law School's operating budget.

Coordinates and oversees the work of student workers.

Required Qualifications

  • Thorough working knowledge and understanding of fundraising, donor relations and public relations concepts, principles, techniques, procedures and practices.
  • Thorough working knowledge of UC Berkeley and the School of Law, including its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure or the ability to learn.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, et cetera pertaining to gift acceptance and prospect management.
  • Thorough written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to build and maintain effective working relationship at all organizational levels and with outside constituencies.
  • Thorough analytical and critical thinking skills, including skills in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification/avoidance/resolution.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Thorough project management skills.
  • Skills to meet or exceed fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and the ability to learn new data systems.
  • Good web-based research skills.
  • Experience and comfort working with constituent groups such as alumni, donors, volunteers; Ability to develop and maintain positive relations with constituent groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Ability to travel and work occasionally on evenings and weekends.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to learn and successfully apply advanced fundraising concepts, principles, procedures and techniques.
  • Proficiency with Constant Contact, Google Docs and the University's constituents data system (CADS) or the ability to learn.
  • Experience managing, supporting and reporting on complex projects and events.


Salary & Benefits

The annual salary range of the position is $83,100.00-$91,410.00, commensurate with experience.
