Dean of the College of Health Professions
Wichita State University seeks an experienced administrator and seasoned academic leader to serve as Dean of the College of Health Professions. This senior administrative appointment will assume leadership of a very strong and diverse academic unit.
As one of Wichita State University’s eight degree-granting colleges, the College of Health Professions offers twenty health professions programs at the baccalaureate, masters, professional certificate and doctoral degree levels. The College, and its health professions programs, receive outstanding support from the surrounding health care community, which includes two level-1 trauma centers, a Veteran’s Administration Center, a state medical school campus, and numerous clinical facilities and practitioners.
The University is located in a diverse metropolitan area of approximately 640,000. The economic base of the region is in aerospace manufacturing and health care and a higher percentage of Wichita’s metropolitan GDP is derived from exports than any other metropolitan area in the country. Wichita State University provides a leadership role in diversifying the region’s economy as Kansas’ Innovation University.
The Dean, who reports directly to the Provost, serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the College of Health Professions and has the responsibility for advancing the academic quality, research impact, and stature of the College. The dean must be a visionary leader who is mission driven and committed to inter-professional education and research, collaborative leadership, and skilled in human and financial resource management. The Dean will assist with the advancement of WSU as Kansas’ Innovation University by focusing on the student experience, increasing enrollment, workforce development, applied learning, funded research, and private fundraising. Close collaboration with on/off campus industry and community partners will be essential.
The new Dean will arrive at Wichita State University at the start of Dr. Jay Golden’s presidency, with a focus on sustained enrollment growth, enhancing research capabilities through convergence sciences, maximizing the student experience, and service to the people and communities of Kansas. The College of Health Professions seeks a visionary leader to guide the college through this period of change.
The Dean will ensure continuous improvement of faculty and staff through professional development to support the quality of curriculum and instruction in face-to-face, blended, and online modalities within the College of Health Professions. In support of WSU’s mission, the Dean will advocate for and incorporate university systems and processes that support faculty and students both on-campus and off-campus.
