JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Associate Director of Graduate Admissions will take on a strong leadership position in a busy and highly functioning admission department. The associate director will be the number two person in charge of the department with authority to make important decisions in the absence of the executive director and will be called upon to use their knowledge of the admission process, WPI, individual academic departments, and best judgement to make challenging decisions and to maintain the academic integrity of the graduate admissions process.

JOB DESCRIPTION
As we work to centralize more of the graduate admissions process this position will take the lead along with the Executive Director to work with individual academic departments to take over responsibility for application review for designated programs. The associate director will also be the point person on the team for current application review and for maintaining decision criteria. Additionally, the successful candidate will take the lead on all academic department questions and issues surrounding application review in coordination with the assistant director of admissions.
Manage the BS/MS recruitment process, information sessions, and answer student and departmental BS/MS questions. Work with the admissions team to better document the BS/MS process and make recommendations for improvements to the process and for increasing applications.
In coordination with the Assistant Director of Admissions work on all fellowships (GEM, Fulbright, etc.) and DEI and SIE initiatives. Additionally, in coordination with the Assistant Director's manage all aspects of the yearly PhD visit. As part of our accreditation, we are required to collect final and official transcripts from all confirmed students enrolled in our programs. This process can be cumbersome given the high number of international students we enroll. The associate director will be responsible for managing this process from start to finish and ensuring that we have collected all necessary documentation within a year of the student enrolling.
Be able to step in for the executive director when necessary to represent the office of admissions and answer questions when necessary.
This role will also fulfill other administrative tasks including graduate application review, PhD liaison with academic departments, answering questions in the Graduate In Box, utilizing Slate to send out important admission related communications and other duties to provide for a seamless admission process for applicants and academic departments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required. Master's degree (or intention of procuring a master's degree) preferred.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Ability to multitask and to prioritize competing priorities.
- Excellent process management skills with an eye to detail. Strong implementation skills.
- Excellent relationship management skills.
- Ability to make thoughtful recommendations for improvement to the admissions process and to processes and hand offs with other departments.
- Ability to look strategically at data and make informed decisions based on the analysis. Understand application and admission trends and share as appropriate with the marketing and recruiting teams.
- Works closely with other key university stakeholders including International House, the Registrar, Marketing, Recruiting, Institutional Research, IT, and academic departments.
- Ability to work closely and comfortably with high level academics and administrators.
